Mitch f Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Ya know, a single wire weed guard really doesn't do much in the way of protecting from getting hung up. Even though I make a few myself, IMO They are overrated. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Old plug Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 That is for sure Mitch you got the right idea I have seen one. He uses the right wire amd they are spread right.
Guest Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 And gosh, you would think we were talking about fishing with hand grenades anytime the Ned Rig comes up. Hard to imagine a short do-nothing worm on a tiny lead head could be so polarizing, especially among folks who already fish small due to clear water and touchy fish. I'm a believer in the concept & application, who cares if it's new or old. It flat out catches bass faster than live bait. Most people can't think outside the box & exhibit the herd mentality. Theyre also the ones who hate that it catches more bass in one hour than they catch in a trip. That's okay. I will continue to vacuum up the fish they miss. I ask myself, what took me so long to start fishing it? Who knows, maybe I was scared of the short shank hook & light line. Cutting & gluing is a pain sometimes. People tend to give up when they have an easier alternative. I've learned to pre-rig them. I promise you this, gone are the days of getting skunked on a sunny calm day.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I promise you this, gone are the days of getting skunked on a sunny calm day. 100%. It is the answer for those days. Those are actually the best days to throw it.
Guest Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I've been asking Ned about shad colors. Smoke would be killer.
fishinwrench Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I promise you this, gone are the days of getting skunked on a sunny calm day. LOL I've said that before. Have you ever thrown a Split-Shotted Zoom Centipede ?
Guest Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 LOL I've said that before. Have you ever thrown a Split-Shotted Zoom Centipede ? Yes, but usually as a Carolina rig or Texas rig bait. That little French fry will catch giant bass too.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 LOL I've said that before. Have you ever thrown a Split-Shotted Zoom Centipede ? Yes, and more frequently the fish doc or a reaper, have even gone to nose hooking/wacky rigging the little Chompers worms on the split shot rig. Even then those flat sunny days can kick your tail. The little rig changes that, and it does it in shallow water. Catch 50+ on a flat calm day after a front, in 15' or less at Table Rock, and you will be sold. Ask the question, "With flat calm water and high skies, what should I do to catch fish today?" With the little rig, the answer is "Stay shallow. Fish bare banks." Flies in the face of much of what we "know". This is more like "micro" finesse, vs. what Ned calls "power" finesse...things like split shot rigs, shakey heads, smoke grubs, etc., are just bigger and more aggressive. Never thought I would consider swimming a grub power fishing, but it is by comparison. It really is different. It is a little bit like when Bill suggests folks slow down, after they think they have already slowed down. This is downsizing and slowing down after you thought you already had. Micro finesse is a going deal in Japanese circles...tiny skirted jigs, 2" mini creature baits, etc.
fishinwrench Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Hee Hee....Yep, you'll all be flyfishing before ya know it.
Ham Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Hey Super Dave, Suggest to Ned that he work with a lure company or two to get the ultimate jigheads and soft plastics made. I understand it has a wide variety of options. BUT He could work with Z Man to make the Ned Series. Elastec Fish Doctors. , smaller Shad shaped , smoke sting ray design, a 3 inch zero, or whatever he would think was perfect. it a handful of the best colors. Heck start with 5 baits in a handful of existing colors and see if sales made it worth expanding the line up. The jigheads would be 1/32oz thru 1/8oz in weedless and non with hook sizes # 4 thru #1 painted and plain. I'd love to keep it in house with a crew of Ned Heads, but the start up costs are too large for me to consider. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
