denjac Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Wow ! There has been arguements and disagreements on here before, but I have never seen anyone threaten physical violance before. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 4, 2014 Root Admin Posted April 4, 2014 To all here, I crossed the line in implying Fat Boy didn't catch what he claims he did. I apologize. Won't happen again. But spahog, this forum was not built into the unmatched wealth of information that it is by people with the attitude of "Who cares if it's an embellished fishing story or not." I care a lot, and so does anyone else who takes their fishing seriously. And there are plenty of people here who fall into that category. I'm as real as real gets here. I put my name and hometown on the bottom of my posts. Nothing to hide. If I catch em, I say so, tell how/when/where and often post a pic. Likewise, if I don't catch em, I say so, including the same how/when/where info. Knowing what not to do can help other fishermen as much as anything. Besides, unless you have a "low-T" issue, there's no shame in saying you didn't catch em. No one whacks them every time. No one. Onward. Thanks for that, James. You showed class. When I said I didn't think we should address or care about exaggerated reports, what I meant is that reports are made everyday by anglers with screen names like r2d2 and jjksl357 (not real names, identities) either naming waters or spots - or not - and telling about what they did or didn't catch. There's no way to know what's accurate and what's not. Yes I hope that all reports are 100% accurate but I know that will NEVER happen, right fellas!! Heck I can't even keep count of the trout I catch in my own head so I always say "about". Then there's those with counters... and those who keep and clean their catch. They know what they've got and/or caught. What I'm saying is serves NO purpose to call someone into account on a report here. Yes we can ask if they took pics - I ask because I want to post an image when reporting an article and/or fishing report. If it's a float trip somewhere, I love to see pics of the river, bluffs and trees (and fish). Everyone if different, I acknowledge that. For some of us, it burns us up to see someone "brag" about catching fish you know there's no way he caught but that's really on him. If that person wants to live a fictitious life in his own mind, then I feel sorry for him.
denjac Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I too apologize about my response. I am thin skinned too and shoulda known better. Wont happen again. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Fishin Hodge Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Table Rock Bass fisherman are really silly sometimes. They seem to take themselves VERY seriously. ^ most accurate post on the forum in quite some time.
Champ188 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Again, I spoke without thinking. The filter between my brain and my mouth (or fingers) doesn't always work well. Sometimes it's good to speak your mind, but just as often it's better to keep your piehole shut. Fat Boy probably did catch those fish. I don't throw an A-rig so when I think back to a month ago, I get nothing but visions of trying my best (along with others) to just buy a bite on a stick bait or jig. Couldn't be done, but that's not to say it couldn't happen on an A-rig. To Fat Boy and anyone else I offended, I'm sorry. That's all I can say about the matter.
Seth Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Champ learned grammar and punctuation so well that it didn't leave any room in his brain to learn how to be nice and polite. Don't take the above post personal this time. I'm just giving you a hard time. I do envy your grammar and punctuation. They were never my strong point. I've always been a math and science guy.
Champ188 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 You got me, Seth. It's a right-brain, left-brain thing. I've been a writer/editor my entire life. On the other hand, I can't solve the simplest of algebra equations.
Ham Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 That's the thing Phil, I was raised to always tell the truth and I do my best to always be truthful in my fishing reports. I carry the clicker so I know how many fish I caught. If I say I caught 23, I know that it was at least 23. It's much more likely I forgot to click a fish than that I clicked twice AND I don't count that fish unless I touched him. If a fish gets off boatside, I did not catch him. I didn't used to need a clicker. It was rare to catch more than 20 or so in a day when I lived in Louisiana. It isn't common to catch less than 20 a day around here especially when I'm on a river or fishing crappie. I'm still surprised by how easy it can be to catch fish up here IF you get on the right bite. I'm too happy to keep it to myself sometimes. I'm sorry if that comes off as bragging. I don't mean it to be bragging. I know there are a LOT of good fisherman. I know that on most days a lot of guys are gonna catch more fish or bigger fish than I do. I get frustrated when other folks are catching them and I'm not, but I am really only fishing against myself and my expectations for myself. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
