Sore Thumbs Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Excuse my french but why the hell am I paying $30 a year for a pass? Sounds like I can go for free.
Bill Babler Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Excuse my french but why the hell am I paying $30 a year for a pass? Sounds like I can go for free. No I think you have to have a federal pass even to launch at Emerald Beach, any of the 3 ramps over there, or even the ones in Owl Creek. I'm going to call Rasnick and see what is up. My concern is that a private person is now in control of a Federal Park and Launch faculty and is charging a daily fee. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Heard quite a bit about this the last year or so. Think the answer, good or otherwise, will come down to the old take line deal and the various agreements with the marinas. From what I was told, resort owners who charge "day fees" are essentially operating as marinas, outside of the approved marinas allowed by COE. It is an odd deal. Seems like the government is looking for ways to make money (by lease or sale) from property developed at taxpayer expense. Sadly, only one of many strange situations in the current climate of cronyism.
bobby b. Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I think the deal is that the Corp fee is for those ramps where the Corp operates or contracts to an Operator - i.e. Indian Point or Cape Fair. Abandoned faciilties like Combs Ferry (across from Indian Point) or several ramps in and around Aunts Creek or the ramp at Flats Creek (Point 15) or Bridgeport can be used without charge.
Bill Babler Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Spoke to a person in the know, and Johnny Morris has leased the facility from the Corp. That is campground and launch and the entire Kabottle. Don't know how he got the lease or even if it went out of bids. But none the less it belongs to him now and that is another launch that we will pay for. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bill Babler Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 On another note, there may be good news on Viney, but I'm not saying I know anything yet. You may however keep on using it at this time FREE. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
merc1997 Bo Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Yes, this is very hard to understand. At our meeting at viney we were told that all ramps going into Table Rock were at the discression of the corps of engineers and were all available to the public. This is very confusing and I am going to get to the bottom of this. Pretty soon there is going to be no access to Table Rock at all. Am I to understand that the park at Long Creek is not closed and that it is under private ownership of Johnny Morris? How in the He$$ does a private individual take ownership of a Federal Park? I want to see where this went out on bids and who is responsible for this. i am with you bill. how does taxpayer owned property get sold to an individual without a vote for one, and an auction for two. bo
merc1997 Bo Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 boat ramps are somewhat like roads, and once public access has been going on for eons without pay, i really believe that if took to court, it is illegal to charge or close access to. bo
Champ188 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 So the taxpayers built Johnny a park, campground, boat ramp, etc. No telling what kind of political connections that guy has.
