Travis Swift Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 if you want a resonable rod I like the trout magnet sore lipper series rods. They are $35 and are 6'6. I love mine for throwing magnets, jig and cork and straight jigs with 2 pound test.
grizwilson Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Phil is as good a jig fisherman as can be found on Taney. Go by his place and buy what he uses. Excellent point about considering the reel as well. Don't get a good rod and put a crap reel on it. You forgot to tell him to put NANO on it Ham..... Phil sells a great rod. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Ham Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 6 lb Nano is the bomb diggity for trout or panfish. I'd use P Line CX Premium for a leader. Awesome set up. I have used 6 lb Nano for bass as well, but I'll probably stick to 10 lb in the future on reels that I intend to primarily bass fish with. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Seth Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 7' BPS Microlite in Medium-Light or Light action ($50) Pflueger President 6925 series spinning reel ($60) Pline Fluroclear in either 2 or 4# test depending on how clear the water is The light action rod works well with 3/32oz and lighter jigs. I'd prefer to have a medium-light for 1/8oz though.
Members Leitsout Posted July 10, 2014 Members Posted July 10, 2014 I have a used St. Croix 6'-6" light fast action with a Pflueger President reel. Real happy with both. I use this combo for jigs, cleos, spinners, you name it.

Clay Goforth Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 personally, a 6' Loomis GL2 with pflueger president reel is the ticket for me... JamiePatterson Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Loomis sr720 with any 1000 series shimano front drag
Terrierman Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Loomis sr720 with any 1000 series shimano front drag Shimano reels are fine as long as you don't them wet. Then they tend to get a little hitch in their get along. I've bought my last one and will be sticking with Lew's speed spins or Pflueger's from here on out.
Ham Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I'm in agreement with Rick. I love Shimano rods and baitcasters, but I'm more than done buying their spinning reels. They may eventually fix their problem, but they lost me as a spinning reel customer forever. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
