Sorry for asking for to much information. Me bad. I have never seen one of these baits and have never thrown one.

Have looked online some at people throwing them, but all the ads are no more than sales pitches. Just wanted some first hand info before I spent what is up to $75.00 each for these baits.

When it comes to this topic, I am pretty much like Sargent Shultz. I know Nothing.

Sorry Bill, I thought you were yanking my chain. Don't mind sharing what I know - which isn't a lot :D

I've been using the Duo Realis 80 (you can get them at your favorite mail order house - TW). here's the link: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Duo_Realis_Spinbait_80/descpage-DUOSPIN.html

They've just come out with a slightly bigger version, the 90, and they have a heavier version, the G-Fix 80 - I haven't tried these two out.

I've been using a light spinning rod, and 6# mono on the reel. I've been throwing it to surface fish, flip the bail over as soon as it hits the water, and bring it in on a steady medium speed retrieve, trying to keep it in the top foot or two of water, I haven't had much luck letting it sink deep and then slowly reeling it in. They hit it pretty good, you'll know they are there. The bait is small, but heavy, it casts really well on a light spinning outfit.

I think I am going to experiment with the hooks, the ones on the bait are sharp, but small, I'd say about half my hook ups get off, hooks just aren't getting it done. I'm a little concerned a bigger hook may ruin the action, but I guess I won't know until I try.

I like the Chartreuse shad color, here's a pic:

Quill, thank you very much. This time of the year, I'm out most everyday and really just have my head down looking for deep fish. Denny and Champ have been telling me a little about these baits, but it is just hard for me to keep up with my schedule. I will order a couple from TW and see what I think.

I did watch a video that said to never throw them on anything above 4 pound diameter. Bill Beck had a customer that was throwing it on 10 pound braid with the diameter of 2 pound mono and doing really well with it. Bill also has not had time to mess with it much although he does have a couple of them.

Most that I am seeing are either megabass or Lucky Craft.

Thanks BB

This may sound stupid but what would be the difference between this and slowly reeling a suspending jerkbait?

stupid question, but a spin bait is a devils horse, boy howdy, spinstick that sinks isn't it?. Why not just take one of those stalwart topwater prop baits and drill a few holes in them to make them suspend, and add a little sinker a foot or so up the line to get it down a bit. You could also do this with an old crazy shad or baby torpedo to get a smaller bait.

These spin baits have a lot less action, the props turn and the bait kinda rolls on it's axis. Jerk bait is going to have a wobble - but the jerk bait may work.

I guess a feller could do that, spend a heckuva lot of time tweaking one of those baits to get the desired action. or you can just buy one and not have to deal with all that stuff.

I throw mine on 8 lb Nanofil with an 6 or 8 pound leader. I catch more panfish than bass and the bass I have managed so far have been small. I have lost the larger fish I have hooked.
