Members Bigfishscott Posted August 21, 2014 Members Posted August 21, 2014 No I'm not loading up. I'm just saying that most fisherman or woman waste more than 13 bucks each trip out. Running farther down the lake than they really wanted to, eating up gas. Or stoping to getting breakfast when you brought food with you on your trip just because it sounded good. We as fisherman waste money on all kinds of stupid things that we don't need every year. I have tried to fine tune my selection of lures that I use over the past 20 years. But because it's new or different doesn't mean that it won't work. I buy new lures every year to try them out on different lakes that I fish. If I can't make them work for me then I don't buy more just because other people are catching fish on them. I'm just saying buy one or two try them out fish them in different ways try to make them for you. If not hang them up in the hall of shame. I have 400 buzzbaits at least, that I have made over the past 20 years. In a pile in the garage that are wore out beyond repair. I've made and fished this bait for 25 years and made it myself for 20 when the man that got me started on it gave me the mold. I've fished the bait all over the country and caught fish on it, some lakes better that others. But over time you figure out how and what the fish want. By the way I like wooly buggers smallmouth eat them up in the Niangua river.

evilcatfish Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I don't have any problem with spending a lot of money on a lure if it has a proven track record and I have confidence in it, for instance a lot of the swimbaits I fish. That said I am not impressed with spybaits. I've fished the Duo a bit and found the hookup ratio to be horrible. Talked to a couple other guys with similar experiences. For the way this bait is fished I feel a countdown minnow is cheaper and works better
Ham Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Now that you guys bring it up, I kinda think there is a Spy Bait / Wooley Bugger connection. I get a lot of hits on both lures and only infrequently get a hook in the fish and even then only catch half of what I hook. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Champ188 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Now, as to wooly buggers -- I didn't mention them, so I'm sensing a little prejudice against fly fishermen. Am I right, and if so, why? I repeat: To each his own. There is no prejudice in that statement. You're the one who seems to disapprove of spending $27 or even $14 "on a single lure, much less a bunch of them." So I think the prejudice is on your side of the fence ... against bass fishermen. Good lord, will fall fishing never get here so we can have something to talk about here rather than snipe at each other?
huntest Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I figure that the hot weather brings out "grumpy"
Champ188 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Thank God for golf (at least until some entitled, self-absorbed, can't-play-a-lick, slow-death azzhat gets in front of me, making me wonder if my blood pressure wouldn't be less if I was out on the lake dodging that lovely group of entitled, self-absorbed ..... ).

Humm Obama must be playing ahead of you.....
Champ188 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I'd like to think he might go missing if he tried to play golf in this neck of the woods.
