We saw several young of the year walleye in West Sugarloaf last night. The walleye kill occurred in 2011.

Between MDC and AGFC, we continue to stock well over 500,000 plus walleye fingerlings each year.

Thanks mojo, the great majority of the summer eyes I found were I that sugarloaf arm.

The normal places like the contours off the flats usually hold something but I found nada, until I trolled at night at which time I picked up a couple.

Hope things improve....

In the meantime I'll go back up to sturgeon bay :-)

Mojo, what caused the kill?.......in May while staying at Peel for a few days I talked to an older guy and he mentioned the walleye kill and that was the first I had heard of it, I actually didn't think he knew what he was talking about except for how bad the walleye fishing has been the last few yrs....I'm on this forum and another walleye forum and don't remember ever hearing of the kill...I thought I just couldn't catch them anymore....I hope it gets back to the way it use to be.

Wish I could contribute you all. Just haven't been out. Living off of the few reports that are posted...even for those green fish!

Ron, I am going off of memory after working a midnight shift...but here goes. If I remember correctly, the kill came after a high water spring followed by a hot summer. The only decent oxygen levels were well up in the water column. It is theorized that the walleye had no choice but to come up and inhabit the warmer waters (out of their comfort zone) to get needed oxygen. Unfortunately, that may have led to the kill.

I believe most of the dead walleye reports came from the Horseshoe Bend area. I remember water temps being up into the low 90s for a long period of time. I don't think they released much water until mid to late summer. Thus, that "bend" area of the lake may have gotten fairly stagnated.

You all can feel free to set me straight!

I would love to be reporting great catches on the forum, but I just have not been out as much this year. When I was out on the lake the catches were not worth reporting. Yes, I know the fish are there. It's my fault that the fishing is bad. I do enjoy the reports from others, but on my part of the lake, not many people seem to know about the forum. I do what I can to spread the word. I wonder how many people who fish the middle part of the lake use computers or the internet? Looking forward to reporting some good catches soon.

Was down there two weeks ago. A few things we noted were all the bass had crawfish in there stomach. Most of the largemouth and smallmouth that were keepers were on a Model A bombers. We did catch a few on wiggle warts also. We caught more smallmouth than anything but many were at the 14 inch size. We did catch plenty of white bass also. While fishing for white bass we did catch a few walleye and spotted bass. Black was the most productive color for the crankbaits and jigs. A couple bass also came on the flukes. As far as depths go the fish are all over the place. Caught some on bluff drop offs, some on smaller chunk rocks and the most on the flats. Ned rig didn't produce anything for me nor did the alabama rig. The water temp was 57 at the time. The best day was on Saturday when it rained all day.

All I can say is the walleye have found their way to powersite, caught 4 in the 21-24 inch range this week. All with water running, and 4 different baits (clown rogue, black/gold/white rc stick, 5 inch Megabass albino Spark shad, and a 5 inch pearl Berkley rib shad). I think if you can find them, they'll eat what ever you put in their face, but they do seem to be roaming as I have yet to catch 2 within a short period of time (under 10 mins)
