Terrierman Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Fish tales has a much better burger and they cook it exactly to order. Ask for the Some like it hot burger it is out of sight. The sauce they put on that burger is great. Nothing can compare with Cody's in Springfield for a perfect burger, but Fish Tales is close. I don't know if you've been in Cody's lately but that place is filthy.
Old plug Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Many bowling establishment are facing a severe decline while maintainxe cost are rising into outer space. the one here in laurie is struggleing. most of what keeps it open is the owners love of the sport. In this area he is also faced with what used to be a senior population turning into a elderly popularion with health problems to boot. I had to stop 3 yrs ago because of arthritis. I do miss it and maybe I could bowl in one league but my average would be at laest 30 pins under the 195 it was at one time.
Bill Babler Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I don't know if you've been in Cody's lately but that place is filthy. Was there last week with a big group and had probably one of the best plates of food I have ever set a lip on. We had 8 guys and every plate came out perfect with steaks and hamburgers cooked to perfect order. More food on the plate than you could eat. Service was excellent, price was great and the beer was ice cold. Tables we pulled together were clean as a pin. Did not give my white glove test to the restroom or the floor. Place was packed and it is a bar so probably not the absolute spic and span of a restaurant. I used to eat there about once a week or when ever we went to Sam's for the lodge. I have stopped that as the food is extra fattening and both of us have been trying to watch it since July. We have done very well, but we will still go to Cody's. My wife is one picky, picky little gal but I have never heard her voice one complaint. I have heard a lot of people say they will never go to Bryant's BBQ on Brooklyn in KCMO. Say it is filthy. What Eve. That is the most fantastic BBQ I have ever eaten and those old turn of the century ovens that probably have never been cleaned are the reason. They have quite a few new locations in KC and none of them hold a candle to the original, smoky and grimy or not. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

The original Arthur Bryant's on Brooklyn is top 3 best BBQ I've ever had and yes....the place is a DUMP. Probably contracted 7 diseases walking into the joint but the brisket, ribs, sausage and burnt ends are worth it! Steak cut fries also? Deeeelish. Only other BBQ on par that I've ever had were both in Texas (Rudy's in Austin, TX and Salt Lick just outside Austin). Still wanting to go to Franklin's in Austin but from what I've heard you have to get in line at like 5am and are not even guaranteed to get any. When they're out...they're out. As far as the bowling that is a darn shame. Lots of bowling places folding because lack of interest in bowling as a sport. Kids these days would rather stick their face in the TV, electronics or some type of other technologies. Would rather play a bowling game app on a iPhone than actually physically bowl at an alley. No youth interest = no adult interest later in life that fills bowling leagues which is where the money is really made. You don't fill houses by walk in's, you fill it with Mon-Fri night competitive leagues. Bowling is a dying sport.
GREENTRITON Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Bowling going out youth fishing not far behind. Neighbor end of street has two boys pushing 300 lbs, never leave the house. Talked to there dad one time said it was easer to put a game boy in one hand doughnut in other, said it keeps them out of his way.. Hard to get kids to enjoy the outdoors, when you have gameboy and all other electronics to play with... Times have changed.. The youth of the world is doomed....
grizwilson Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Rick- Bill could it be you are using different locations as there are two Cody's in Spfd. ? One on sunshine and the one south? As for Authur Bryant's to me the one downtown is by far the best. Oldest son bowls quite often. Both boys will fish or hunt anytime anywhere guess I am blessed. But also never considered them in my way. G “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein

Old plug Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Like it or not the young americans today sort of look down on hard labor. Its just not the cool thing to do now days. That is why you see so many small business contractors using mexicsn laborers that come up here for a few months in the summer. My son will pay $15 a hour and uses mexicans when he has a large project. I got angry at him about it. He told me I would be happy to use Americans but there are three immediate problems. They do hot show up for work, they have to be pushed to get work out of them when they are there and drugs and alcohal. I might add he and his friends solved the problem for the most part. They are all in the building trades and provide the labor each other need when ever they can.
Bill Babler Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Nope the one on Sunshine is where we go. It is always really dark in there, and to tell you the truth I have only went to the restroom there a couple of times and it did not seem horrible for a bar. or really looked at anything beside my chair and table that have been clean. Green county dept. of health is pretty picky anywhere food is served so I am assuming the kitchens are up to snuff. Only thing I really know is the food is simply fantastic and cooked to perfect order every time we have eaten there. Presentation on the plate is flawless and the accoutrements are always fresh and crisp. Even the tomato slices as my wife points out are always very nice and ripe. Another thing that very few if any restaurants do is serve sweet onions at all times of the year and they seem to always have very sweet onions, not just the old dime a piece yellow onions that are hot as hell that you can get anywhere. Another plus is they brown their burger buns very nicely and the bun never collapses or gets soggy, even on a very rare hamburger, it stays just perfect. Fish Tales is much the same however their burger is much smaller and cost just as much as Cody's. Place is most always packed when we are there and everyone seems to know each other. Lots of locals. Was in Austin last year and really did not care for the Salt Lick. Was very disappointed. That place is just a zoo. Waited almost 2 hrs. in line and the brisket was as tough as a boot. We had sausage and pulled pork also and it was just fine, but with so many people which they said it is like that everyday. Brother-in-law just moved from Austin and said there are lots better places than the Lick, but it was an icon we just had to hit as my wife and I are foodies from the word cook. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
skeeter Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Awesome Burgers at W.F. Cody's !! A very nice guy I happened to become "chemo-buddies" with last year who is an avid paddler/kayaker/rafter happens to have been the former owner/operator. He still owns the Real Estate but has moved on from operating/running the place. A definite must whenever we visit Springfield. Never have worked up the courage to try the one-pound burger...gotta' save room, after all, for the mushrooms. Too bad about Hillbilly Bowl but reports have said the Restaurant is to remain.
