Hunter53 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Donna, try super glue for the splits. I use it all the time when my eczema on my hands gets out of control. No sting and quits hurting immediately. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the wonderful people on OAF. I will second the super glue. It holds way better than nuskin or liquid bandage. The best thing to do is drink lots of water (hydrate from with-in) and use lotion BEFORE you get all dried out and cracked. With that said I am horrible about not doing that and am always fighting dried out cracked hands and the heels of my feet. Donna G 1
Jerry Rapp Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I have gotten those little weather cuts for years. Figured out a couple of years ago that as soon as one popped out, put some Triple Antibiotic on it for a couple days. Heals them right up.
Sore Thumbs Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I see people with extremely dry hands wear gloves at night after lotion is applied. That would drive me nuts.
dtrs5kprs Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Zim's Crack Cream. Just a pharmacist's vote. Jerry has it right as well, especially when they get as bad as Donna's. Clean them up, use some triple, and cover with a band aid. And yes, heard at church that there is still a good Ned bite. Not sure it ever stops.
abkeenan Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 My hands split EVERY winter. My knuckles and especially might right thumb. Uber annoying and drives me crazy. Have tried everything to no avail to stop it. I do the neosporin with band aid deal but it inevitably comes back at some point and splits. I want to cut my thumb off and be done with it. Nice report by the way. LOL. I feel your pain Donna. Typing this is a split thumb as we speak/type. Ugh.
abkeenan Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Sounds like this winter/spring could be shaping up to be a decent jerkbait bite. Like what I'm hearin'/seein'. Donna G and Champ188 2
96 CHAMP Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Champ, I don't know what your wife uses on those hands but tell her to try o'keeffes working hands hand cream if they work on mine they will work on hers I have tried everything over the years and this does help immensely, good luck
Donna G Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 Thanks for all the tips. I'm sitting here with dried SuperGlue on as I type. lol Look like some gangsta trying to hide my fingerprints, but it's certainly protective. I've tried a lot of different creams and lotions. Most work fairly well, so long as you use it, and as Hunter53 said, BEFORE you get in bad shape. I'm going to make a concerted effort to lotion up more often, but the glue will fix me up until this bout heals. The best cream I've ever found (when I use it) is one Champ188 and I call Pink Stuff. We whip it up at home. Cheap, easy and makes a pile. Has a combination of petroleum jelly, baby lotion, vitamin E cream and triple antibiotic ointment.
