J-Doc Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 How long do you wait between checks? And is the thing free falling? And does it have action just sitting on the bottom? If there is no action, I don't see how this thing will work to attract attention. Just sitting there on the bottom. It needs to give off some sort of vibration on the way down and the wiggle or so.etching once there. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
fishingaddiction Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Free fall until contact with the bottom, can also shake the slack line while falling. Many takes occur on the initial fall. After bottom contact slight up and down motion with the rod tip just letting it hop along. Slow movements especially in cold water, but more jigging action/swimming motion and movement in warmer water. This time of year slower is usually better. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.

Just not anything unnatural that would turn off a fish. Most of the things bass eat go out of their way to not get noticed, but still end up as dinner. We get hung up on erratic or injured action due to our history with hard baits, schooling fish, etc. The idea that a bait needs to attract fish through action is a little misguided. Look at a float'n fly just hanging under a float. Even a jig spoon just hanging off bottom with no jerks or snaps. Rich Zaleski wrote about subtle colors like smoke triggering a hunting reaction versus a feeding reaction, particularly for smallmouth. Think a similar effect is going on with the little rig. I'm convinced at times they just sense a subtle something, and hunt it just because it is their nature. Will see if I can get my videos worked on this week, in between pouring heads and rod building. Think it shows the action pretty well. Don has some up at Winkiedoodles, but mostly in containers not a pool. I never think about "checking" it. I just go on fishing it as planned. Usually if one has the bait you will notice it as you shake the slack, or inch the tip along. They tend to pull back when they feel that slight pressure. It's not a bait they get in a hurry to drop.

This is why the lightest head feasible is the ticket. You wasn't them to have plenty of time to locate and look at it. Slower is never wrong, even in the summer. They will let you get by fishing it faster in warm water, but there are usually more to be caught by going back through at a slower pace.
fishinwrench Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 All of this really takes me back to the days of the Gitzit (or G-2). If you'd fish a 3" tube bait the same exact way I think you'll find that you have extremely similar results.

Trust me, I was VERY skeptical of this rig until I started hauling in a bunch of fish on it. Dave knows his stuff! The whole thing is best explained by my favorite line from the Woody Allen movie, "Annie Hall" "My Brother thinks he is a chicken" "Why don't you take him to a psychiatrist?" "Because we need the eggs"
GNSfishing Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I have found that dead sticking the varmint will get you a lot of fish. I also watch my line for any suttal changes along with feel as I retrieve will produce a good number of fish. I use 10 lb Nano-fill line with 6 ft of a 6 lb fluorocarbon leader on a 6-1/2 ft medium light action fast tip rod with a Lew's 200TSH reel with 1/16oz jig head. You really don't set the hook, just a good pull will do the job..
gitnby Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 That elaztech is amazing stuff! I like to save the ones that get torn or mangled, which is not that many. If you use a trailer hook on your Spinner Bait, try cutting 2 little circular slices of a used ZERO or ZinkerZ and thread one on each side of your trailer hook. works better than the rubber bands and doesn't deterioate like the rubber band. You can also use a small piece as a hook point guard on jigs if you're fishing heavy cover. Run it through first to allow a slot for hookset. And, according to Dave, if you eat one ZERO every day, you will never need Rogaine or Viagra!

Have any of you fished while on the bank, or while on foot? Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction.
