Seems like we have to have one of these "airing of grievances" threads about twice a year. I'm surprised it has gone this far without someone mentioning jet skis, wake boats and the like. :D

Gosh I can't stand jet skis.

All better now?

general douchbaggery?... Like holding a grudge on a coach that hasn't coached your team for 3 years?

Or blasting some guy that disagrees with paying big $$ for custom lures or paint jobs?

Or classifying all the fishing jersey wearers as goobers?

I've had old men pull in and throw across my line, had wrapped boats pull in on top of my fishing spot, but I've encountered MANY more people that were just as respectful as most of us try to be.

Table Rock is a big lake, if some one encroaches on me I usually just go somewhere else. It's not worth getting mad about, especially since I had a friend get shot a few years back near Hot Springs. He's lucky to be alive, all over a fishing spot.

I just think it's stupid to place a "tag" on someone just because they wear a particular shirt.

Iclass, please open your eyes and read the words we have written.

1. We aren't labeling anyone "just because they wear a particular shirt." As Thumbs said, we are discussing behavior that we have actually encountered.

2. As BATCAB27 pointed out, you can spot the "suspects" at your weeknight, 10-boat jackpot derbies. Not even going to say everyone who wears a jersey to those is a goober, but the likelihood is pretty darn high. That's from personal experience.

3. It makes no difference to me or anyone who has agreed with my stance what someone wears. It's the behavior that's irritating and embarassing to others of us who try to carry a banner of common courtesy and act as ambassadors for the sport, not know-it-all, entitled jerks.

4. When it comes to on-the-water behavior, disrespectful behavior becomes more than an irritant to fellow competitors. I've fished at practically every level of this sport, and I can tell you that in my experience, the higher you go, the more courtesy and sportsmanship you tend to see. Sure, there are exceptions. And there are exceptions at the local level among the jersey boys. But MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE has been that the jersey-clad imposters (non-sponsored) are the group that I've had the most trouble with, regardless of their age. I'm talking about crowding in closer than is generally acceptable, pulling into a fish area ahead of someone who is already there, throwing a big wake into someone else's fishing area, disrespecting the lakeside property of others, and on and on. Again, not everyone is like this. But I believe the per capita population of these jerks is highest among the wannabe, non-sponsored jersey boys.

5. Finally, it's pretty likely that these guys are getting the idea that this kind of behavior is normal and acceptable from watching the BASS Elite Series and FLW television shows. You let any kind of controversy crop up out there on the water, and that's exactly what the producers will play up and emphasize on the show. I guess it's all about ratings, but it's not an accurate portrayal of the overall picture of professional fishing and it's not doing anything to help the sport grow for those within or to improve its image for the specator folks.

I can't think of another thing to say about this jersey subject. I hope my stance is now clear.

NOT TALKING ABOUT A CAP, HOODIE OR T-SHIRT. FURTHERMORE, EVERY NONSPONSORED JERSEY-WEARING ANGLER ISN'T A JERK. JUST SAYING THAT MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THAT THE GOOBER POPULATION IS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER AMONG THAT SEGMENT OF THE POPULATION.

Nobody likes inconsiderate jerks. But there seems to be a little bit of pettiness in these discussions. That's why you bass guys find yourself on the defensive. It started with bashing wannabes with jerseys and wrapped boats being goobers, etc. now it's evolved and is all about behavior. Can't have it both ways fellers.

My advice: get out and fish, enjoy yourself, don't let the jerks ruin your day, don't spend any time figuring out other folks, be nice to others, especially the jerks. You'll come out ahead in the end.

Oh, and that would include not trying to fit folks into 'that segment of the population' Champ

Well Champ, I usually have my eyes open when I read. Your stance on these "goobers" has been widely documented on this board, if it's not that much of a problem for you let it go...your point is taken.

Maybe your predetermined opinion of those guys wearing a jersey affects you to where any action they do rubs you wrong before they even do anything.

It's must be nice to know who is and who isn't sponsored just by looking at a guy.

I haven't fished at the highest level, but have been fortunate to be in a boat, with many pros and semi pros. Most of the guys are above respectful, even Tommy Biffle and Edwin Evers, who have been blasted on this site. I try not to base my opinion on one encounter with a person as every one has bad days and/or makes mistakes. I pray those I've offended would give me benefit of the doubt as well.

I have a jersey that was given to me by the dealer I bought my boat from, I've never worn it because it's not comfortable to me. They actually sent me a shirt and hoodie for my birthday for a couple years, that I gladly wear to promote them. But I would hope that if I ever had the chance to meet you, I'd get the benefit of the doubt that I'm not much of a goober if I happen to be wearing a jersey.

I guess the time I spent in SE Ark made me realize not to judge a book by it's cover, most often the pages inside reveal what a person is really like.

Feel free to use it anytime. If you decide to put it on your jersey you owe me a dollar.
