Old plug Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 When my knee problem started affecting my fishing (couldn't get up the stairs at Taney) I had to bite the bullet and get a replacement. It kept me out for about 10 weeks, that was in 2007. Had orthoscopic on the other knee in 2012 and felt better coming out of the hospital than when I went in. But the worse pain I every had was sciatic nerve pain that started in my right hip and would shoot down to my knee 4 weeks ago and could not stand for more than 15 seconds or walk 20 ft. Went to Arizona the day after it hit and was in misery for 6 days, came back and went to chiropractor and started getting some relief after taking spinal decompressions everyday for 2 weeks and starting tomorrow 2 to 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Getting old is not all that it is cracked up to be but at least now they can replace some parts! F2F[/quote You sound a lot like me. although no back or Hips yet. I had dual knee replacement a couple years you did. One of them is failing with the lower post a bit loose in the socket for close to a year now. I use a brace to support it and have gotten along fairly well. I talked to a doctor last fall about revision surgery. He said whenever it gets to the point Incannot stand it any longer let him know amd he will take care of it. makesme wonder how nasty this isgoing to be. I am sure you know whatvknee surgery is like.
Guest Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Get the steroid injection, switch hands & stop setting the hook. I can explain bc the same thing happened to me last year.
Guest Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I don't set the hook with the Ned, but reel down & lean back, that's it. No winding up & jerking real hard. I stopped all that non sense. It worked for me but I had to unlearn my hook setting habits
Ham Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Awww Man, I've got to set the hoook a little bit. Not like my flipping and pitching hooksets, but something. I'm not switching hands and I'm trying not to do the injection thing, but I might if I have to do so . Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
dtrs5kprs Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I have to switch hands throughout the day when working the bait. That is one of the reasons I prefer finesse stuff when I can. Couple days of flinging a blade or spook is about it for me. On a two week trip I generally take a day halfway through to let my hands recover while I run some laundry.
ollie Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Arnica for the pain has worked for me many times. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I worked at GM for 15 years and these types of injury were common to a fault. Instead of 200 MG's of ibuprofen they would prescribe 600-800 mg's. Alternate ice and heat. Physical therapy. Pete Ham 1
hoglaw Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Ibuprophen needs to be taken at800mg 3x per day to be effective. It has to build up. That can hurt your stomach. I prefer daily naproxen.
Ham Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Keep in mind that all th NSAIDs increase your relative risk for heart attack. Most irritate your stomach and pile on the damage if you are taking other meds that can damage your stomach. Naproxen is great, but it really increases your risk for bleeding. Relative risk that is. I am currently taking naproxen twice a day. Same dose as recommended by the podiatrist when my achillies tendon got inflammed. I try to have food onboard when I do and I have an end date in mind. I'm not recommending anyone take 800 mg of ibuprofen three times a day. That amount is prescription only. My arm is feeling lots better. Still stretching, still icing at times, NSAIDs, and looking at some exercises. LittleRedFisherman and Terrierman 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
