Guest Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I actually experienced my fist 50 bass day at Enid in North Mississippi, when it was at floodstage during the mid 1980's You could run around fishing the campgrounds because all the concrete bench's & picnic tables held good numbers of bass. I've never run that pattern in the Ozarks, but Im going try it next time it floods.

Works often enough to know it is a going thing when the lakes are that high. Ham 1
Ham Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 BIrd baths and lawn furniture can be pretty hot too. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
SplitG2 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Bumping buzz baits on the submerged power poles feeding docks worked well for me. A good couple of weekends i won't forget.
mixermarkb Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 One of the biggest Smallies I've ever caught on Bull came off a flooded porta-potty. Champ188 1
Champ188 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 My wife caught one of the biggest 5 fish smallmouth limits in lake history during that timeframe. She thinks you can go out & catch 4-5lb smallies everytime. LOL Trophy, were you two fishing with Babler when she caught those? I remember him having a couple with him a few years back where the wife just wrecked the big brown fish.
Bill Babler Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 She had one 6 pounder 2 5 pounders and another 5 or 6 at 3 pounds each. I forget the number, but I believe she caught 18 keeper Brown fish that day. Easy 22-23 pound 5 fish bag. I will tell you now, it will never be replicated in my boat. The single greatest day I have ever had a client have in over 7,500 guide trips. Good gosh, I believe that was in 2011. I had another trip a few years before that and I believe it was on another high water year in 2008 when I had two brothers each had a 5 pound jaw. Funny thing is they had them on the same time for a double on 5 pounders. We caught them swimming a Yamamoto smoke grub off the middle runnout in powerline. Those guys ended up the day together with probably 22 pounds of Brown. The two 5's and 3 other solid 4 pounders. Those two 5 pounders were the only grub fish of the day. All the rest came the old fashion way on the tube. Your out as much as I am it is kind of like the old Sow getting lucky and finding an acorn. Charlie Campbell weighed in 4 smallmouth that weighed 19 pounds in that derby. He came in second. I think it may have been a Central but don't really remember. Said that was the only 4 bites he had all day. I think it was a buddy tournament and he was fishing by himself. What ever it was, Beck and I fished it and I believe Champ and Donna did also. Champ if you remember I believe that was the day I helped Donna carry that bag up the boat ramp. I believe you all had a small limit as did Beck and I. Everybody was kidding Charlie that he couldn't even catch a limit. They were stickbait fish. It was classic. I'm pretty sure that was the same derby. But I have been to so many weighins that I may have forgotten. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Guest Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 You are correct, Bill, It was the day after that Joplin tornado & preceding the 2nd flood that year. Bill really knows his stuff, that's for sure. Excellent Guide.... I remember her saying "get the camera" & Bill was like "no you get it in the net first" Lol It was the best day of fishing I can ever remember for smallmouth.
