Red Fin & Bomber Long A

Exactly.

Not a lot of the others that you can wake as slowly as a fin. Some of the custom balsas, maybe the long A, old thundersticks. Seems like the newer "wake" baits need to be cooking along. Definite advantage for the fin when the water temps are still creeping up.

Everything as stated above; and keep the rod tip HIGH! As it gets closer to the boat; you will notice the wake start to dwindle; then slowly lower the rod tip in relation to how close the bait is getting to the boat. Gotta pay close attention to the rod tip height and distance from the boat; you'll figure it out and keep slowly reeling.

does the old Mann's One Minus not work? The big ones. They are a wobbling fool on top with just a slow crank.

They don't have the profile of the big gizzard shad like the redfin does, which is not to say they won't work. I did pick up a couple of the minnow versions of the one minus this winter, and am interested to see how it runs. Can't remember the exact name, something like "Stretch One Minus". Same lip, but in more of a big shad profile.

Try Buckeye Lures "Wake up" bait. They are similar and require no tinkering.

I have one. It wakes and works but I don't like the action on it because it is a one piece bait. If Buckeye made that same bait in a jointed model I think it would be killer and the best waker on the market. I have had thoughts of cutting the bait's last 1/4 or 1/3 off and adding a joint.

I can start out with a variety of brands & colors until I find something that runs good.

The fish over at Hot Lake should bite them right now. so that's a good place to test them out.

I want to be ready when the wake bite gets hot this spring/Summer
