I wish I had a good bread technique! Anyway Smoked a brisket for my birthday, but my Traeger “Errored out“ about 3 hours into it and had to finish in the oven. Still had a smoke ring  and tasted killer though.

Looks good Marty. Love the cast iron shape! Now that it is warmer here may push getting more sourdough going. Our deep Wagner once I am finished seasoning it should make a great bread pan.

Long post. Skip if you want.

Last May, Nancy and I retired. For good reasons we decided to move away from my beloved lake.

We returned to Tulsa and became a part of a not for profit retirement community. We do not exactly fit their demographic. Most of the people here are older. (I am 70.) The widows outnumber the widowers by a large margin. A solid, but small, percentage are couples. A very high percentage do not desire to cook. I am a member of the food and beverage committee (actually, they made me the chairman) and I have learned how much they value others cooking good meals for them.

The financials for the community, therefore, are based on meal service. All must have a meal allowance, although you do have a choice to pick regular or one half.

We struggle to use our one half. My lovely wife hates to see money wasted. Most weeks we have the fancy Sunday brunch with wine and accessories.. That evening, we have items we saved from the brunch to make an evening meal.

To use the minimum, we also must order a meal per week. Before they locked the common dining area, we ate breakfast there often to use up out tab.

Do not misunderstand. I am not complaining. We have been blessed. I write only so that you will understand the picture with this post.

Sunday dinner:

Smoked salmon and shrimp cocktail. I made a small salad to go on the side.

I have been terrible at bringing home fresh fish lately. So we.picked up some perch filets. We seasoned the fish, salt, pepper, Old bay, and a little lemon juice. Then coated fish with ranch dressing. Cooked at 350 until it flaked.

We did catch our first half dozen crabs of the year. I have heard that they are sweeter early in the season. They really are😁

Sue made a pea salad with peas, yellow  bell pepper, red onion, and cheddar cheese.

Happy birthday @Mitch f!!   I’m in the process of finally buying a decent smoker. The old cylinder just won’t cut it anymore.  Gets way too hot.  Traeger is near the top but nearly every brand seems to have a glitch.  Is the error fixable?

I know that MD has raspberries and blackberries. Probably huckleberry in the mountains. Not sure about gooseberries.

Wife picks up the mulberries off of the trees we have and makes mulberry jelly. Kind of takes the sting out of having those trees and the mess the birds make with it.

Forgot about mulberries. We do have some trees that we could harvest mulberries without too much consternation. We've never tried mulberry jelly. I do agree that having birds above your vehicles and a tree full of ripe mulberries is a purple mess everyday through the season.
