No fighting from me, I'm easy. Throw me a cheeseburger and I'm chill. 😊 Can y'all do a segment on fishing lunches? Going tomorrow and here's what I'm packing....

We are losing hunters every year. Why not interest a new hunter and let them reap the rewards? Just since you don't seem to like some if not all wild game why be little those who like to eat it? I feel violated. I don't hunt anymore. Never was much of a deer hunter. Killed some turkeys, but mostly quail, dove, rabbit, squirrel. Man what I would give for a pan full of barbecued dove breasts. My mom would lay them on a pan, cover with BBQ sauce and bake in the oven. Those were amazing. When I was 16 we moved from southern Oklahoma to Springfield. And I didn't have access to the thousands and thousands of acres of land that we had in Oklahoma. Most of it was owned by family members and nobody was allowed on any of it. Except us. Lose that and the desire kind of goes away. Dad buys a bassboat and I lose my freaking mind over the next decade. I used to clean a lot of fish. I mean a lot. In my late teens and twenties my dad had a friend that made sure a group of his friends got to fish. He's one of those guys that Babler was talking about with the unlimited funds. The summer before my senior year in high school my dad and I went to eat lunch with him. We stopped by a boat place and he decided to buy a new boat while we were there. Champion bass boat. Maroon. I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. Paid for it with a credit card and we left with it. Blew my mind. Told me to bring a friend the next day and we would go try it out. We meet him at his office and he hands me the keys to his truck and tells us to have fun. That's just how that group ran. And since I was some kid that was just wrapped up in this unbelievable situation, I had some duties that I had to perform. Keep all the boats clean and ready to go. And I had to clean all the fish while they drank and made fun of me. And they liked to keep fish. So even though I still love the taste of fish. I rarely clean anything anymore. I paid my dues and I'll just get a burger on the way home. fishinwrench 1

Johnsfolly Posted December 5, 2021 Posted December 5, 2021 Tonight was General's chicken. Did use a store bought sauce, but the chicken is the new batter that Sue is using and double fried to get it crispy and brown. Sauted broccoli and topped onto basmati rice. Very tasty and I'm happy with leftovers 👍 ness, rps and BilletHead 3
rps Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 Daughter came for Sunday dinner. I braised a small part of the brisket flat (about 2.75 pounds) and added scalloped potatoes and sauteed spinach. I made a rub of salt, pepper, and paprika. Rubbed the brisket thoroughly and let it sit for a couple of hours. I thin sliced two onions and chunked a large carrot. I peeled and crushed four garlic cloves. I seared the brisket in the braising dish and moved the meat to the cutting board. I sauteed the onions and carrots until they had brown edges and the onions were soft. I deglazed the pan with a half cup of dry red wine and a half can of diced tomatoes. I threw the garlic in and added two bay leaves. I slid the beef back in and added chicken broth until only the top of the brisket showed. I covered the pot and put it in a 275 oven for five hours. When it was done, I removed the brisket and tented it with foil. I removed the bay leafs. I drained the juices through a sieve, but retained the veg. I defatted the juices and put the liquid back in the braising vessel. I added back the veg. I used a stick blender to puree the mix. I put the "gravy" on medium and brought it back to a simmer. I sliced the brisket and put the pieces back in the pan to reheat. BilletHead, Johnsfolly, ness and 1 other 4
BilletHead Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 Today it was meat loaf but let's go back a few days first, I hauled three cows to a meat processor a week ago for a farmer friend. Half of one of them is being done for us. Will be our first large purchase of beef. Kind of excited. So, we also have been talking about getting a pellet smoker grill also because of this mega meat purchase. Looked at some on amazon but did not get too excited about it. then last Thursday a trip for stuff in Springfield. Went to Bass Pro for a bit and Pat wanted to go to the outlet. I opted not to do the outlet and just enjoyed the nice day and waited outside. A bit later Pat popped outside and said you need to come in here. I go in and follow her to a big box on the floor. Look here! There was a Trager pellet grill. Hole in the side of the box. Half price. I find a worker and aske a few questions. I had already peeked inside the hole and could.t see any damage. She said they could not find any either and if purchased we could bring it back within 60 days if not happy. A couple other people were now watching. She said just put on the floor and could not believe it wasn't gone already. Sold I said I like half price! unboxed and assembled it. Easy Peasy, Teh 700-dollar dent and only viewable at an angle, Got some pellets and seasoned it. Today I tackled a meat loaf, Pretty neat tool for cooking, Possibilities out the wazoo. Kind of high tec too but all that stuff I suppose this old dog can learn in time. BTW meat loaf was goooooood. rps, ness and Foghorn 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!"
