ness Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 My mom always said don't buy seafood on sale, but $1 oysters at McCormick and Schmick's seemed a safe bet. But these were fishy and gritty and teeny too. Told the waitress they weren't fresh. She said, 'You didn't like them?'. No, I said they're not fresh. She said, 'We ran out of Blue Points, and these are even fresher than those.' I said, OK, but they're not fresh. She said, 'These are from the Pacific, maybe that's why you don't like them?' I said they're not fresh -- you're gonna make somebody sick. Oh well, not gonna argue with a waitress. She sent the manager over and he was apologetic but the damage was done. No more M&S for us. Tummy is fine this morning, thank goodness! Gimme my Crock Pot (R) chicken! Chief Grey Bear 1 John
Flysmallie Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I like me some oysters but man I am leery of them. I think I have only eaten them in North Carolina. But that's once a year at least. Good stuff. Not those. Stayed up late the other night to smoke some pork butt for my brother in law's birthday. So delicious. Chief Grey Bear, snagged in outlet 3, Quillback and 3 others 6

Flysmallie Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I saw one today that is getting close to 45 days. It is black but not smelly.

Actually I think I screwed up, I assumed my fridge in the basement was between 34 and 38 degrees F. I let the meat go 5 days at 41 before I corrected the temp... Now I'm fearful of the result. But this weekend it will be ready. I planned it for this weekend because my wife's dad is coming to visit from China, the mom is already here BTW. He had to go back to Take care of business. MOPanfisher Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 If it doesn't look too bad and more importantly doesn't smell bad I would take my chances, or if there is enough cut off a piece after you trim it and cook it up for yourself.
MOPanfisher Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Well since my wife is away I guess I will make me a little snack tonight. Found a couple others that were dried up and broke them up and scattered them around the honey hole for the future crop. ness, Mitch f, BilletHead and 1 other 4
MOPanfisher Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 And here they are now, plenty of Cajun in the flour, just enough to make my mouth burn a little. Biggest conundrum was what wine (only have 2) to drink with them, so I compromised and poured a double shot of Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire into a tumbler and topped it with 7 up and ice. ness, Mitch f, Flysmallie and 2 others 5

Well, It looks fine, had to stick my nose within a couple of inches to smell anything. It smelled a little. What do you think? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
