Cabelas has Pflueger Supremes (Not the XT version) on sale in the Bargain Cave for $59.00. Heckuva deal. Or to put it another way, good bang for the buck.

You ever toss one on a caster? Been thinking of a build. Hate spinning tackle. Fly rod or bait caster preferred.

I've got a G Loomis with an old junk pflueger that cats it like a dream. I think it's more in the rod than it is in the reel.

Pretty much, as long as the reel isn't causing any obvious issues. The Excelers I use were all in the $59-79 range, nothing special.

Stupid inflation.

Here's a deal that Mark Davis showed me many years ago --- back when he was still guiding on Lake Ouachita and maybe before he even fished his first professional derby.

When line twist starts giving you problems on a spinning reel, cut off your lure and troll your empty line behind the boat. Open the bail and spool off nearly all of it --- or down close to your knot if you use backing. Be sure and have a good grip on your rod when you first close the bail. It's surprising how much drag/pull that empty line has.

Pull it for about 5 minutes, then stop and reel it in. Tie your lure back on and you're ready to go fishing. Your line should perform like you just spooled it on.

That's what I do too if twist starts to be an issue.

My setup wasn't bought for the Ned, but it works for me.

Keep in mind 50% of my fishing takes place on creeks & rivers.

Its heavier than what most people are using for the little rig.

Falcon Cara T7 6'9" Medium action spinning rod (CS-4-69M), its designed for drop shots & shaky heads.

Shimano Stradic 2500

Sufix 832 Braid 10lb

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Fishing Line Smoke 8lb

The yozuri is stout stuff, I use it as a leader but its also the mainline on my wife's spinning rod.

Its affordable at $6 for 600 yard spool (Ebay)

You have a gem in that Carbonlite, if it is the old black one. About as right as you can get. Did not include it, because the new one is quite a bit different.

It is the old black one, and I agree the new Carbonlite in that model is quite different from the old model.

The dragging behind the boat is absolutely the best way to get twist out of mono, fluro, or copoly that is on a spinning reel. ALAS, it doesn't seem to remove twist from nanofil. I don't think the nano has enough body and it is too "slick" for the water to grab and work the twist out of it. I pull the last 4 feet thru my thumb and forefinger (Mr Pointer to his friends) pressed as hard as I can together. Then I go back and pull the last 8 feet thru them, and then I go back and ppull the last 12 feet thru them. This gets the twist down to a managable level in Nanofil. IF you make the mistake of trying to pull all the twist from 12 feet of Nano at once, it will sometimes knot up on you. Hey, I said it wasn't perfect.

We've got sonar units with GPS, 2D imaging, sidescan, downscan and 360-degree scan. We've got remote-controlled and GPS-guided trolling motors. We've got high-quality digital cameras that will record our entire fishing trip and cost less than $300.

But we can't come up with anything better than the line-twisting, knuckle-knocking, antiquated piece of crap that is the current state of the SPINNING REEL?

We should re-invent the push button with titanium parts & motion sensors!

I actually love spinning reels and find myself using them more and more. Of course, more and more and more, they spining reels have a Ned rig attached to them.
