I took my son trout fishing yesterday for the first time ever. I live in Willard and my typical fishing trip is to Stockton Lake for Crappie, Bass, or Catfish. After making some smoked trout on my Kamado Joe Smoker, My son (age 10), asked why we couldn't fish for the rainbow's instead of buying them. My initial response was to tell him I hadn't figured out how to use the fly rod I purchased at a yard sale a few years ago. After reading a bit on this site, especially Phil Lilley's posts, I decided to break out the crappie gear and add some 4lb line.

A couple of people at Bass pro gave some good beginner advice, we chose powerbait (both the putty and round bait balls). We fished at the Cooper Creek fishing dock and each of us caught our first ever trout! Two rainbow's 10 and 11.5 inches long. I can't stop reading about it now and wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed to our success and to everyone who post on this site. It's good entertainment until we return to Taneycomo.

Congratulations. You can always stop in at Lilleys Landing for supplies and advice, they have a nice dock also.

You should have NEVER started, it always starts with one or two fish. Next thing you know you'll be skipping work and sneaking off to the boat ramp trying to bum "bait money"

:-) lol
