Quillback Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I like the looks and the price. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Zoom_Z_Craw/descpage-ZRPOC.html
dtrs5kprs Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Hopeful it will run like the Menace, and might be softer. Downside is yet again Zoom has knocked off another company's bait. Not unusual in that business, but they have become expert at it. Made worse by how aggressively they defend their own trademarks and patents. Pretty two faced. Sorry. That has bugged me since I saw the bait in an email from landbigfish. Sac River Jim 1
balsabee Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I saw it yesterday as well...obviously a menace copy. I'll be getting some because of the great price. olbasser 1
Atta Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Didn't zoom start the brush hogs and the flukes? Not sure who came out with those bairs first....
dtrs5kprs Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Didn't zoom start the brush hogs and the flukes? Not sure who came out with those bairs first.... Brush Hog yes, Super Fluke yes. The original Fluke is a knock off of Herb Reed's Fin S Fish, the Sluggo company, as is the Tiny Fluke. Others include the G-Tail (Gator Tail), Double Ringer (Mark Pack Ring Fry), Critter Craws (Luck E Strike Guido Bugs), Injected Tubes (Luck E Strike G-2). When they design something truly original it is nearly always a great bait, Brush Hog, Super Fluke, Super Chunk. When they copy a bait it tends to be worse than the original, as in the Double Ringer. They make a tiny design change and sell it as original. Let us not forget their early tussle with Larew over injecting salt. Sac River Jim 1
Ham Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I understand how you feel Dave, BUT Strike King and Luck E Strike have poached a LOT of lure designs as well. It doesn't make it ok that Zoom is doing it though. Other companies are also developing that raised edge desigh to force more flutter. Keitech has one. I really try to stick with the company that brings the better mousetrap to the market. I have a bunch of the original Sluggos, BUT Mister Twister really did improve things by having a 5 inch bait that throws better and had the slot in the back which made it easier to get a hookset and easier to rig. I still prefer the Senkos to the other baits of that design. I had to break down and get Barlows 3 inch rat tails because the 3 inch Senkos are just too fragile. I can easily fish thru a 20 bait bag in a couple of hours and catch maybe 20 fish on them instead of catching 5 fish or more per bait on the Barlows. Quillback Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 The Senko is a certainly a bait that every plastics manufacturer out there has copied. Hard to beat the GYCB Senko, which I assume is the original, but as Ham mentioned, they are so fragile.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 Zoom is certainly not alone. SK is right there with them, in terms of going after mold makers, small guys injecting baits, etc. Not so much bothered by the fact they knock off baits, that is SOP, but to have the gall to do it, then defend their own stuff with vigor is pretty slimy. I don't have any problem with a company defending their own product, if it works both ways. Goose and Gander. Interestingly, GYCB now has Senko branded aluminum molds being sold by Do-It. Apparently they took a different tack after years of the knock offs, and are now trying to rake in some coin on the molds. Disclaimer just references the use of the Senko name. Molds are supposed to be exact in every way. Neat idea to co-opt the competition instead of fighting them.
willyfish Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 It will work but there is a bunch of creature craws out now that will do the same exact thing. Anyone get a look at the drop craw from luck e strike. Chris Lane was using it last week I think.

Has the cupped boot paddle extremities.
