Very sorry about the honest misinterpretation. I guess I missed that thread. Sorry also been thinking about this the last day or so,and I must apologize, I am out of my element. I don't typically get so involved and don't care to stir the pot on here. I had good results, and wanted to defend them.

I have caught several fish on the Ned Rig this year at Table Rock and Stockton. I have had one small bass get the hook in the gullet and killed it. 90 % of the fish i catch have the hook in the top of the mouth. I believe that if i fished a plastic worm as much as i have the Ned Rig this year i would have had

a lot more fish with hooks in the gullet. Especially if I Carolina rig it. I have had several trips this year where the fishing was pretty tough and the Ned Rig has saved the trip. Yes, i do believe the Ned Rig has a tendency to catch smaller fish. Although a buddy of mine caught a nice 4 lb LM at Stockton on it.

I just think it is another arsenal in my tackle box to hopefully allow me to catch fish. There are times unfortunately when every fisherman kills a fish. I dont care what they are using. It happens. I do know

for a fact a bass wont live in the frying pan!! I release all bass. If a fisherman wants to keep some

bass to eat thats his right. I dont complain. But i dont think we should rip fishermen for using a Ned

Rig, an Alambama Rig or a spider rig. As long as it is legal. Just my two cents.

Hey guys just drop the subject and have fun in the great outdoors that God gave us and be nice to each other. If you don't have anything positive to say then stay silent

Well speaking of not saying anything NICE...

Why ya gotta drag God into it? He's the biggest breaker of the 10 commandments ever, and would stone all y'all to death for this Ned worship!

Smithvillesteve and others,

I am in complete agreement with you on the Carolina Rig thing. I have seen more Bass " deep Hooked" with that method than any other I can recall. Once again though I think a lot of it has to do with the size of the bait. Most of the people I see using it have about a 6" plastic on it. Pretty slender, pretty easy to suck in. I personally changed to a bigger lizard one time to stop the problem. I caught a lot ( that is A LOT !!!!! ) less fish but it cured the problem. The fish were a little bit bigger but I still was not catching keepers on up. Started fishing Spinner Baits and Crank Baits after that. Thanks for your input. You brought up a good point.

So is a bigger Ned rig back to a shakey head?

Deep hooking can happen. I had a problem with it a day or so ago using flukes and wacky worms. The thing that was causing it was I was dead sticking with 10 lb test braid that is very tiny and I could not see the line. The fault was mine. Most deep hooking can be layed at the feet of the angler.

WALTCRABASS----- Your problem sounds like lack of positive connection between you and your bait. Again that is your fault not the baits fault.

Old Plug,

I am politely in disagreement with you. When fishing the Carolina rig it is common to drag and stop or scoot and stop etc. It is on this stop that the bait can be easily inhaled ( if it is small enough). Since you are in contact with the weight of the rig which is on the bottom and not the Bait which may be slack due to falling after the jerk, drag, etc. then this gives the fish a chance to pick it up before you know what is going on. This is literally where the lack of positive connection between me and the bait you spoke of comes into play.Same with other lures like Jerk Baits. How many times has a guy been doing the Jerk Jerk thing and WATCHING HIS LINE CLOSELY only to find when he goes for the next set of Jerks that the fish already has the lure in his mouth. "Unfelt" bites are common especially in the colder water times and from Storm fronts. I want everyone to understand that what I am presenting is just the opinion of myself and many other anglers. It doesn't mean it is etched in stone in the Bass Fisherman's training manual.

Please don't condemn what I post as something coming from a dictator or psycho. I just feel that as anglers we need to give some thought to things as they play out ( not a pun even though we are talking about fish ) during our angling adventures.

Ever respectful,

Walcrabass
