dtrs5kprs Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Just a complete ZOO out there yesterday. This deal might be out of hand. I got cut off so many times that my guests said lets just go in. We did catch some early Redfin fish and caught several swimming a grub, when I could find a location to throw it.I was out at 6 up the White and there were already boats on every point from Baxter to Campbell Pt.Buster reported that on some points around the dam, there were as many as 5 boats fishing the same point at the same time throwing into the same locations. Precisely why I would rather try to walk across a KC interstate than come down during it. Maybe time to limit entries? Muddy Water and Deadstream 2
dtrs5kprs Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Dave, my only concern is that you used the word "piping" outside of the context of plumbing. Hee hee.
Quillback Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I fished out of big m yesterday and the traffic was horrible. Lots of bass boats, wake boats and even a few jet skies. It seems to me that the lake is getting a lot more pressure this year.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 It seems to me that the lake is getting a lot more pressure this year. Lower gas prices. Y'all can just tell me about what it looks like in July when more folks can afford to drag their Crownlines down.

I think I'll sign up for a basket weaving class this summer, or maybe learn Chinese. Come on November... Muddy Water 1

By nature, big bass tournaments draw bigger crowds because it only takes one cast rather than five to win the whole shebang. They also draw a higher percentage of inexperienced tournament anglers, although I'm not sure that's really a factor anymore. It used to be there was a silent code of ethics among tournament anglers, and that only a select few failed to follow them (don't cut people off, don't wash people up on the bank with your wake, etc.). However, the overwhelming lack of respect/regard for anything or anyone beyond your own nose has spilled over into every facet of life these days. Regardless, the more entries, the more jerks. And because they can actually get lucky and win some money as opposed to five-fish limit tournaments, the jersey-wearing, KVD-worshipping, can't-catch-a-bluegill-on-a-cricket crowd flock o these events, charging around the lake on nothing but adrenaline and testosterone and cutting off anyone in their path. Strong words, yes. But those who ignore or deny they exist are part of the reason there are so many of them. Glad I'm writing this from my recliner about to go enjoy a round of golf. It would be no fun out there this weekend. P.S. It will take more than disgruntled locals for tournament organizers to consider limiting the field. They are here a few days out of the year and then off to their next event. What do they care whether we like their derby or not? The more entrants, the more money they make ... bottom line. magicwormman, eyedabassman, Lake bound and 2 others 5

Obviously the organizers would have no interest in limiting the field. Just curious as to how the regatta permit works for that sort of deal. We always had to list a ramp and seems like an estimated number of entrants also. Otherwise you nailed a good part of the participants. Running like mad and thrashing the water, if not any fish, into submission. Champ188 1
OBBT Staff Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I'll make one final effort here to reply but in the last 6 years that we've been doing this event it's the same individuals on this board attacking the event, the anglers competing in it and those of us running it. Our event is no different than a BASS Open or FLW Rayovac or Big Bass Bash event visiting this lake in terms of numbers and impact. The event has grown in participation each year and 99% of our anglers provide positive feedback from our events. Please don't take this the wrong way but we are more than willing to listen to feedback and comments regarding those who fish with us. Those who haven't who come on this board to complain are doing so with an agenda and opinion of our events with no basis in facts or experience with the event. So while I consistently and respectfully address your questions/opinions/insults I take it all with a grain of salt. Here's some facts for you naysayers to consider: 1. Anglers from 20 different states traveled to this event to complete this year. That's real money in your local economy to business owners that you know and call friends. It's also additional money as they come to pre fish for this event or travel back to this beautiful place because we introduced them to it. 2. A big bass event has far less impact on the fish due to limiting the number of fish in the live well during the event and the fact that we weigh one fish instead of 5. This isn't a matter of opinion it's a simple fact of the math. 3. We are meticulous with our fish care and only lost three (3) fish the entire weekend across both days of the event. We release them back healthy for future anglers to catch and hopefully release. 4. We respect the fisheries that we visit and all of the hosts and people that we work with and anyone who says otherwise is simply looking to cause trouble and is making those statements again with no basis in fact. Last point for me today. The kid who won this event was 19 and fishing with his father for the first time in a tournament. When he weighed in his dad yelled so loud it was incredible. They are grinning ear to ear. To James I say, they have just as much right to enjoy this fishery and compete in this tournament and your arrogance around being a "5 Fish" angler is shameful. 99% of the people who fish our events love fishing and are weekend anglers at best. They have every right to enjoy our resources and compete in an event. So they might "get lucky' in your opinion but I'll bet you $1 dollar they couldn't possibly care less what your opinion of them is at this moment. Sincere thanks to everyone who fished with us this weekend and congrats to those who cashed checks. Huge congrats to Brendan Madden on his first ever tournament win fishing with your dad. Well done. Enjoy that Nitro. Take care everyone. RogueAgent, Ron Burgundy, Just another guy'd and 2 others 5

Enjoy that Nitro. Take care everyone. I have met and talked at length with Mr. Jim Jannard, the founder of Oakley. He had a common interest with my mother, English Setters. He made a mint despite being very mellow and laid back. He would not approve of the activities in his name. By the way, OBBT staff, you could work on your pr skills. Your post sounds terribly self serving and insensitive. magicwormman 1
