Members Ralda
I realize this may be the wrong forum for this, but I follow this one for my trout needs. I picked up a G loomis gl2 6 foot spinning rod today at bps on clearance for 135. This is a big purchase for me as my second most expensive rod cost 25 and is 15 years old... It is going to be a Father's Day present (allegedly). My question is this. What reel would you recommend? I'm not looking to start a verbal fight between members but would love to hear some thoughts on $50-100 options. Thanks
Members bgault
My spinning real of choice is a Shimano Stradic 1000. I have two of them and love them but they will set you back $180. My second choice is a Pflueger President 6925 which is $59.99 at Bass Pro. One of my Shimano's I've been fishing with for 15 years or so and it's as smooth and nice today as the first day I fished with it. I actually prefer it to the newer Stradic that I purchased a couple of years ago (but they are very, very close to being the same.) I just picked up the Pflueger President and to be honest it fishes just as nice as my Stradic's ... I just don't know at this point because I've only had it a few months if I can get the same 15 years of trouble free fishing out of it ... my initial reaction is I don't see why not. I seems very well made.
Ham
You could do a lot worse than a Pfluegar President. It's a $60 reel. The sizing is kinda weird. So it's better to shop in person on those and get the one that looks right to you. I like the 6925 size for trout. I would strongly push you towards 6 lb nanofil as well, but that's another argument I mean thread. We are gonna fight about everything so you might as well get some suggestions for a reel out of the deal. grizwilson 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. aarchdale@coresleep.com
I have became a big fan of Shimano with the rear drag lately. I have a few Lews spinning reels and they are junk, i love the baitcasters but i have had problems with 4 of my lews spinners. Granted they aren't the most expensive ones but i literally have had two of them break in half (the part that goes up to the rod) and all i did was set the hook on crappie. And another the handle has so much slop in it. And it catches now like it has some flat bearings grizwilson
SplitG2
Flueger President. You won't be disappointed.
Travis Swift
Whatever you choose my suggestion would be something with a nice wide or big spool. The little ultra light reels that have a narrow spool with twist your line a ton, you won't get good casting distance at all and you'll deal with messes a lot. Members Leitsout
I have quite a few Pfluegger President models; all sizes in both the old style and new and am very happy with them. I fished a bass guide trip with Bill Babler in March and fished with one of his Shimano Stradic reels I believe it was. That was a very nice reel, upper end of the spectrum as far as your price range though.

ollie
I have an Okuma and so far I like it and it didn't break the bank either.
