Ketchup Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Just watched a video with Doug Hannon showing the benefit of using it. Anyone here do this? I heard over the years fishing tourneys that its caustic to fish, but in the video, he states only in very large amounts. He recommends 1oz per 3 gallons, so 4 ounces per average livewell. I can see the benefit when the water warms, adding more oxygen, and in a very cheap way. Just curious. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Heard of it for years but always been scared to try it. I find it easier to just use the aerator and a couple milk jugs filled with Ice ( put in bait saver ) in the jugs before freezing to remove chlorine. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Ketchup Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 I do that also. Just found the video interesting and may try it when the water starts to boil in August. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
fishinwrench Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 For fish you plan to eat.... Or for fish you plan to weigh and release?

fishinwrench Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Ahh, well if it's one of those (7pm to 7am) 12 hour all nighters I can see the concern I guess. I dunno, I big-time tourney fished for 14 years and I think I only had 3 fish die in the LW. And 2 of those were in cold weather. I've added ice a few times, I think that helps.
Johnsfolly Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I'd like to hear how you do when try it later this summer. The video must have been fairly old, since Doug Hannon died in 2013. I loved watching him on ESPN.
Ham Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Or you could just make a decision when you catch the fish out of hot water, to a) release them or keep them. IF you are gonna kep them, then on ice will have them firmed up nicely for cleaning when you get home. BilletHead 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
fishinwrench Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Ham, these are big time tournament guys. You can't weigh in frozen dead fish, there are penalty's.
