Iclass Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Aren't walleye and trout stocked because they don't have successful spawns? If they were as successful as bass in the spawn there wouldn't be a need
dtrs5kprs Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Always been around, if everyone practiced catch and release only there would be problems just as if every one practiced catch and grease. Certainly. http://www.in-fisherman.com/conservation-politics/the-simple-continuing-sense-in-selective-harvest/ This makes a lot of sense, and has for decades. abkeenan and Ham 2
Iclass Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 That's an awesome idea, especially when you can fish unlimited days of the year. Maybe the 28# pike was the only fish the guy caught? Not everyone that wants to eat fish has the choice of selective harvest.
*T* Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Would be more amazing if he hadn't killed a nearly 30# pike when there are eating size pike all over those up north lakes. Real shame. Amazing picture. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci

If they were as successful as bass in the spawn there wouldn't be a need Ask one of the two current Biologist on this site or the retired one. They would be far better and more accurate sources. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Not everyone that wants to eat fish has the choice of selective harvest. That is when ethics have to guide decision making. The choice always exists. Obviously the pike is not specific to the discussion, we don't have them, but it highlights the selective harvest concept. Ham 1
dtrs5kprs Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Amazing picture. I knew what you meant, and it is in that regard. That beast must have gone on a serious rampage to choke all those down quickly enough to leave them all in a similar condition.
Bird Watcher Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 From an economic stand point they are the most important fish. Care to cite your source? Chief Grey Bear 1
mjk86 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Walleye are put and take, just like the slick fish below the dams. Militant meat fishermen? Has this always been around, or have we just turned back the clock on selective harvest by about 25 years? I dont think that it matters weather the fish has been stocked or whatever, the fact is that the white river lakes have the potential to pump out some record walleye. If I caught a 10lb largemouth out of TR....its going back in....a 15 inch spot is goin on ice though they are a dime a dozen. Busters walleye was a very rare specimen...but according to you the fact that it ate a dink bass means more of them should be knifed...read the thread!
J-Doc Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Gack!! That's crazy talk!!! Then we'd have those big saltwater munching machines cruising around eating every baitfish that moved. You forgot women and children...... And bass anglers. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
