51-24. 9 game lead in the division. All this without Wainwright, Adams, Holliday, and Walden. Pitching has still simply been awesome. Holliday and Walden should be back soon. If Matheny can find a way to limit the innings of the young pitchers and we can find another decent bat this team could be unstoppable.

I'm just hoping they don't fizzle out come October. It seems like the years they dominate during regular season and win 100+ games, they don't go very deep in to the playoffs. The years they have to fight for a wild card spot is when they seem to go the deepest. Either way, they sure are fun to watch right now!

That is true...the teams that play playoff type baseball in September have historically fared better come October.

It's a game of streaks... they're on a long one.

It doesn't seem like the teams they play have good days... Come out flat.

They're playing good and having fun -- feeding off each other -- even the news one who come up to replace the injured.

I wonder if the difference is the clubhouse... the positive atmosphere, working together as a team. Doesn't seem to have any primadonnas on the team. Even as big as Pujols was when he was there, he was a leader, positive role model.

I think Matheny has a lot to do with it too. That and the veterans.

good pitching will make any team look bad 75% of the time. I read on SI.com that STL has a 99.1% chance to make the playoffs with their 9 game lead at this point in the season. The marathon is getting close to the 1/2 way points. Still a lot of games to play.

Big difference this year is when they are down they seem to find a way to claw back into it, if not end up winning the game. Rosenthal figured things out and isn't as scary this year, seems when someone goes down or goes into a slump someone steps right in and makes it count. The Scruggs guy seems legit and Heyward is finally coming around with a hot bat. Seems everyone knows their role on the team and all are executing to a T.

We have the best record in baseball, without our best pitcher and hitter. Why can't we enjoy the ride? Instead of enjoying the success of our team, we are kvetching and wringing our hands about the future.

I think we'll be OK.

An I-70 series would be wild! Last year was sooooo close!

what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends
