Terrierman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 No handguns allowed would be a great start on less gun deaths, sandy hook was a horrible thing, but the exception rather than the rule. Every day deaths due to handguns are the rule...they serve no purpose in society and if they were non existent there would be far fewer shootings. I only bring up Sandy Hook as evidence of the country's unwillingness to do anything at all to deal with gun violence. Surely if there were ever an outrage that could have tipped the argument, that one was it. And nothing happened. I submit that means nothing ever will. The debate is over.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Oh I understand clearly what you are saying, and I understand the gist of the article. Your using the article as a some sort've justification or as an example of why ordinary law-abiding citizens should arm themselves in public --- that is exactly where common sense and logic and disregard for statistical facts have been parked, and in its place YOUR emotion, your wishing to be BATMAN have taken over. You think its a high probability that you will find yourself in a similar situation, and that is why you carry, right? To defend yourself and others. To be the hero. You've watched too much TV. I am waiting on your statistical facts. You seem to rely on personal attacks and ridicule. Do you read Alinsky much? I have clearly expressed I have no desire to take part in a gunfight. The one person that has posted first hand experience of such clearly states they did not take any pleasure in it and do not wish to do so again. You choose not to understand and that I can not help you with. People carry for various reasons. Most will generally carry to protect themselves and their family in the event that they are faced with a violent attack. Some will extend that further, but most in this day and age of being crucified by the media even in the event of a justifiable shooting have a very narrow window in which they would draw and an even smaller one in which they would fire their weapon.
fishinwrench Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 The thing about every Tom/Dick/Harry owning the type of guns that are only good for shooting people is that PEOPLE DIE, and when they die their guns get handed down, usually to family members, and some of those family members might not be very smart. A single gun can last much longer than one or even two, three, four generations. YOU might be a very good and responsible gun owner, but your son/brother/nephew is probably a douchebag, but you died and now HE has the guns. Let's hope he pawns them for a bag of weed or for some stereo components.
Ketchup Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Lots of "closet" anti-gun boys in this thread. If you dont want to carry open, or concealed, then be a victim. Its probably in the best interest of society anyways, due to your lack of training, knowledge of guns, how to safely handle one, but dont sit in your closet, and think that because you are incapable of carrying a firearm, that others are in your same "closet" At times i read these fishing threads, and think what idiots there are in this world, but some of those "you negative, anti-gun posters" that are posting in this thread make those fishing threads non-existent. Im trained, a gun instructor, years of law enforcement experience, hunted since i could hold my own bb gun, and can outshoot most of you on here, and to read some jack snif say there is never a good reason to CC, is about a stupid a comment ive read anywhere. Your right, its not for you. But there are those in this world that are capable, and yes, can save the day when things turn sour. Silly boys jtram, dtrs5kprs and Greenheadrocker 3 TinBoats BassClub. ColdWaterFshr Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 So why do you carry? Do you really feel that unsafe?
Old plug Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 You better carry a gun if you sell insurance and keep money there. I been reading about that shooting the past few days up there. Part of the reason I would not trust you are a yone I do not know personnaly carring a gun.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I don't think you really want to know. It would be what many would call draconian and resemble what Australia did. They do still have occasions of violence involving firearms. So do you feel that the Australian laws would be sufficient?
fishinwrench Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'm a fine gun handler, so fine in fact that I know it is a bad idea for ANYONE to pack 24/7/365 including myself.
oneshot Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 No handguns allowed would be a great start on less gun deaths, sandy hook was a horrible thing, but the exception rather than the rule. Every day deaths due to handguns are the rule...they serve no purpose in society and if they were non existent there would be far fewer shootings. Normal St. Louis attitude. My first wife carried, it stopped the problem of her being cornered by a bunch of Blacks one day right on Main Street in town. Stopped a Guy in our House, that had just busted through the Back Door. I'm hoping my present wife gets her CCW and buys a Piece to carry because of her Job. I can not help but think would have been different with my 60 year old Mom if she had been carrying. Once had a Trucker hit her in the Head with Tire Billy and robbed her. Busted her teeth and Glasses. Another time kidnapped by 3 guys, drove over several counties, rapped, throwed out naked, in the ditch for dead, on a cold January night. Yelp like I say normal St. Louis attitude!!!! I'll leave it at that and not add my true thoughts to you. oneshot
Terrierman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 They do still have occasions of violence involving firearms. So do you feel that the Australian laws would be sufficient? Be a heck of a good start. Their firearms homicide rate per 100,000 people is a small fraction of what it is here in the U.S.
