MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 NO closet anti gun sentiment here...im 100% anti- handguns they have zero purpose in society. The are completely pointless other than to kill or maim other human beings. Nobody hunts with them. Rifles/shotguns no problem, i own a few hunting weapons myself. FYI...you dont have to be trained nearly as well as you are to carry a gun around...your the exception. Why stop with handguns? Was JFK not killed with a scoped rifle? Didn't a guy in a Texas clock tower wreak havoc? A rifle is a much deadlier weapon than a handgun. Look at the survivability rate for handguns vs. rifles.
Ketchup Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Mo, It will take a a hell of a lot more than a few anti gun fishermen to ever convience me that owning, carrying, using a handgun has a negative effect on society. Im VERY pro-gun, and if elected President, i would make it law that EVERY anti, handgun hatin', city bred, closed minded person would HAVE to take classes on how to handle, operate, and own a handgun. So write me in for the next election. P.S. Did i mention im very Pro-Gun? Otis Roostertail and Greenheadrocker 2 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 One thing I am sure of is that criminals will be criminals even if all firearms were to suddenly vanish from the face of the earth. The same types of crimes would still occur, just with different weapons. You mean that violence is not tied to an inanimate object? Shocked I tell you!

Not to be a jerk, but it sounds luke your a city boy with no knowledge of firearms. Read, gain wisdom, go to a shooting range with an instructor, and open your eyes. You sound pretty nieve. You are both well beyond crazy. Flysmallie 1
Terrierman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Never is a long time. Look at the fundamental change in America that has taken place in such short order. So indulge us. What is your ideal and how would you achieve it? No thanks. Going fishing instead. Wish me luck.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Ketchup, I would guess you are pro gun, pro liberty, pro freedom. You probably have no desire to force your will on anyone and if they choose not to own a gun, go to church, drink whiskey, or smile at pretty ladies you won't make them. Just a hunch. Ketchup 1

ColdWaterFshr Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Personal responsibility. The same reason I wear a seat belt, lock my doors, maintain my vehicle, provide for my family.... I am responsible for the safety of myself and family. I will find the best tools to do so and work to develop my use of those tools so that I can use them in an effective manner. That could be punching the quick key for 911, crossing the street to avoid an unsavory character, to the use of force in the necessary defense of myself and loved ones. You assume that the only tool is a hammer and therefor everything appears to be a nail. Not the case. And you assume that a gun on your hip is going to protect you and your family, as per the armed robbery article you referred to -- in the same way that a seat-belt will if you are in a collision?? Your own seat-belt is not likely to be stolen and be used against you or someone else, is it? Locking the door of your house doesn't bring with it any real deadly liability, does it? Nor does providing for your family. As others have said, the risk of carrying far outweighs the benefits. You are not professionally trained as a law enforcement officer is, right? So you really can't impress me enough that you are as responsible as you claim to be. What if you are out running errands, and you have your gun on you, and you come to a place of business that is clearly marked, "no guns". What do you do with your sidearm then? Lock it in your car? it is an emotional decision on your part to carry and it brings with it a huge responsibility. A responsibility that 99.999% of our population just is not equipped to take on. Take a look around you. The average schmo Unless you have been the victim of an armed robbery and it gives you some kind of "psychological" comfort, or puts you at ease . . . well, then you just need therapy. OR, its not that at all. Far more likely, you have these fantasies of being a hero, to be like Batman. I'm sorry, but you do.
Bird Watcher Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Why does everyone in this thread keep making the comparison to Batman? I thought that was the shtick with Batman...you know, that he didn't use a gun. Just lots of different gadgets, blast nets, boomerangs, grappling hooks, etc. Well that, and he was a real brawler. He could usually beat at least 5-8 opponents in a fist fight. I'd compare him more to a modern day UFC fighter with the prop usage of WWE. I guess I missed the part where Batman pulled his M&P shield out of his ankle holster? That would actually be kind of lame.
