Smalliebigs Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 The idea that banning guns equals more safety is just goofy. Aaron please let's go fishing soon!!!! I have some cranks for you and some for your brother to paint. jtram 1
MOBass Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 So what do you think of his comments regarding religion and government? While not directed towards me I will say that Regan was absolutely correct. Jefferson explained this very eloquently- "Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State." The concern was that the government would establish a state religion much like England. Jefferson did not want to come out of a war of independence from a country with a state established religion just to see it happen again in the new country. So how can the 10 Commandments be displayed in a court house and not conflict? The state has not established any particular religion directly. If someone sees the 10 Commandments as being an endorsement of a particular religion they are getting butthurt over nothing and need to go back and learn some history. The problem is some will attempt to bastardize the language and use it to attack religion. They, along with zealots on the other side both should seek to educate themselves. Tanderson15 1
cheesemaster Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 What good did it do him? He still got shot. He got shot before he started to carry. I guess you can do the same if you would like - wait to get shot before you carry.
Tanderson15 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 It seems to me the rough areas are not the problem, churches, movie theaters, schools (all levels), malls all places where guns are not allowed. I use some common sense and do not go into areas that might be rough. Since I'm retired I don't have to. I fixed the problem carrying heavy guns --suspenders
jdmidwest Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I grew up hunting. The best Christmas was when the long box was under the tree - a single shot .22 one year and a 20 gauge another. I have no problem with guns. I just don't understand open carry at all, not in the least. I just don't trust random strangers with guns. If you can't go to, for instance, to the St. Louis Zoo without packing a gun on your waist, it seems that you the exact kind of paranoid wuss that should not be carrying a gun. The idea that more guns equals more safety is just goofy. It makes some sense - maybe - in a few particularly rough areas, but the better best is just to stay out of those areas. The idea of bunch of gun enthusiasts open carrying around Webster Groves or Hawn or Bennett Springs is ridiculous. So do you know all of the police officers in all of the towns you visit? They open carry and they are total strangers. Even though they are trained in the basics, alot of them do not care about the gun they carry. They probably know very little about its safety and handling. And if you see someone openly carry, how do you know that they are not Law Enforcement, off duty. I don't think they have to display a badge when they are off duty. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
jdmidwest Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 A meth head, a skin head, and a Tactical+511 guy walk into a bar. They're all packing. At a corner table sits Andy and Barney. Barney's packing, but Andy has his bullet. Bruce Wayne is at the bar (packing status unknown). Ted Nugent is behind the bar with a rotary grenade launcher. Who walks out alive? Unless someone threatens someones life, they should all walk out alive. You say nothing about any of them doing anything threatening. But if any of them are drinking, they may be breaking the law if they reach intoxication. jdmidwest Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I think you answered the trick question correctly. Now the skinhead was probably there to sell dope to the methhead. Both were packing and probably felons, batman should have called the law or checked them out. The others just sat back and watched. Tanderson15 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I was always taught if there's a way out you should take it unless immediate harm or death to you or someone else. Once out a favorite number 911.
