Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 19, 2015 Root Admin Posted July 19, 2015 Very frustrating even when the LOCAL paper and local people don't understand LOCAL situations and how things work. In this article, they completely ignored the fact that Bull Shoals has to drop to 680 feet for the work to be done to Powersite. They state, "in the next few days" the lake will be drawn down. Come On!! Do your research! Ask questions! Understand the demographics of your area!! Do your Job! We (businesses that are affected by your bad reporting) have to clean up your mess. We, not you, get the calls from people asking about the draw down and how it affects fishing and boating. Then there's the people who completely write us off for recreation because of the adverse affect of bad reporting. I'm hoping someone at the paper reads this forum but if that was the case, they wouldn't have written the article. laker67 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I agree. I see it all the time in my area. Heck, half the time I think they report rumor and here say as facts. Send the editor a note. Pete
Ham Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 The real downside of the information age via the internet is some folks are so focused on being first with a story that they do not worry about and accurate and well researched story. The local paper is just short of printing hearsay and rumor on local crimes. It would be funny if it was such a serious issue. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On top of that, most people that read this stuff take it as gospel and never do their own research to verify a story. Some of the stiff you see shared on Facebooks and the number of folks that believe it without verifying it is mind boggling. It is no wonder there are so many sheep in this country.
fishinwrench Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 It is the same way here, the radio stations and lake area newspapers are clueless to the lake itself. They don't even know what mile marker things are or which arm of the lake they are on. They do seem to know which bridge they are closest to though, so you have to decipher from there.

The exageration, and sensationalism of the news media during the 2011 high water had numeriois people on a tourist oriented forum thinking ALL of Branson was under water, or some way effected by the flood. Bad enough there was the property damage that occurred, but an irresponsible news media was running tourists away! Same thing they may now be doing with their poor journalism today. Real men go propless!
