The topic of double digit largemouth came up in another thread so I wanted to see what everyone thought.

Took me 40 years to get one over 8 pounds.  Now I have several.

State record out of Bull Shoals was over 13 pounds but was caught back in 1961.

I always thought north of Hwy 70 would be pretty tough to catch a 10 lber.

How common are double digit largemouth in MO?

I've seen them some recently and lost a few years ago before I had good equipment. The closest I came this year was a 8.69 out of Table Rock in March.

I have lived and fished in Oklahoma and Arkansas for my entire life. I have never caught a ten pound bass. Nor has anyone in the boat with me. My largest was a bit over 9 from a Tulsa area farm pond in the 70's. I have two over 8 from TR since I moved here in 2002. I recall believable pictures of TR ten pounders on this forum only two or three times since I joined. Seems to me that rare would be a good answer.

I think a lot about the stories you hear of people who have been around water all of their life suddenly drowning and there is no way to determine exactly what happened.  I know if I ever caught a 10-lb bass I am going to have a heart attack and fall in the water and no one will know what happened.

David,

I would agree with you if I'm fishing in MO. When I lived in Florida 10 lb. fish were as common as 7+ lb. fish are in MO. I still have never caught either a 7+ lb. bass or 10 lb. bass in either local.

I've never personally seen a 10 pounder, and have heard of only a few being caught in my area.  My biggest MO largemouth was 9 pounds even, weighed on post office scales, for a small local lake many years ago.  My dad and all his buddies who fished Wappapello Lake religiously back in the 1950s and 1960s when it was in its heyday never caught a bass much over 8 pounds, though they caught massive numbers of 5-7 pounders.

10 lb fish are rare in my opinion in Missouri. I remember Mike Webb caught one over 11lbs out of Table Rock a few years back. I was very fortunate one day and caught one over 10 out of a private lake that I snuck into. Yes I was dumb but I was in high school and it is loaded with bass. Caught her within an hour of being there. Not a very good pic but it was caught on a war eagle spinnerbait. She probably a bass over a lb in her gullet. If I find the other pics I will post. I will never forget that day.

I had to go to Florida to bust a double digit bass.   Lots of 7's and one 8 from Mo.

Alot of guys talk about catching 10's around here, but I think most wouldn't know a 10+ from a 6-7.  A 10 pounder has a mouth as big as your hat, and eyes as big as yours.
