Smalliebigs Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I had to go to Florida to bust a double digit bass. Lots of 7's and one 8 from Mo. Alot of guys talk about catching 10's around here, but I think most wouldn't know a 10+ from a 6-7. A 10 pounder has a mouth as big as your hat, and eyes as big as yours. agreed Wrench....unless I see the fish on a scale and it says 10 otherwise it's BS....I can't tell you how many pics of Bass I have seen where the person says look at this 10 lb bass.....you think to yourself okay that's a 6 or 7 pound fish
moguy1973 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 There's a place in Columbia that you can pay to fish for big bass. It's called Trophy Country. They say they produce 8-10lb+ fish rather frequently. But then again, these fish are probably fed a healthy diet and are raised to be big. After seeing the almost 7lb fish come from my in-laws pond a couple weeks ago, I'm sure there are quite a few farm ponds that hold some 10lb+ fish in Missouri. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Me and a buddy were curious of what bass weigh so we bought a digital scale and played guess the weight. We guessed way high until we had weighed dozens of them. After that we would guess within a half pound either way. The only reason I caught 8 pounders was access to a private lake that had them. Never caught anything above 5 in any other lake. Unfortunately the lake was used to water crops and several years ago during that long hot spell they drew it down to empty. Sad day my friend. Pete

Nah, I doubt that many farm ponds would have a 10 pounder. I think it takes a great forage base, especially shad, to grow fish that big in MO. Not sure most farm ponds have enough for them to eat. A pond with a few bass and a lot of stunted bluegill might do it, but shad are probably the key.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 My buddy's son caught this last week in Florida. 12.2 pounds. Pete Gavin 1

Tons of large shad, a few small bass, a few large Bluegill and a few large Catfish. It is very tough to fish, most days I catch only 1 or 2 and never have the bass been larger than 12 inches. However, what I have seen during the spawn was jaw dropping. There is no doubt there are a few bass that are at least approaching double digits. Personally, with all the bass fishing I use to do my largest is 5lb's and I have only caught 2 of those....kinda pathetic now that I think about it!
Members chelboed Posted September 24, 2015 Members Posted September 24, 2015 I was wondering about this topic as well. From what I can tell, it's highly likely out at Angler's Paradise. I caught one a couple months ago near KC that was 8...but I've been searching for anything over 5 for two-and-a-half decades. The funny thing was that exactly 1wk later, I snagged a 3.5-4 foot long grass carp in the "exact" same hole. Then last saturday...I caught a 2.1# crappie from the exact same hole.

Trout are very high in fat / oil and would fatten up a largemouth really quick. I'm really wondering if these places that stock trout throughout the winter would have the potential to grow a double digit bass. I caught a ton of brown trout this winter that were small enough to bee a great meal to any Master Angler sized fish.
Gavin Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 How big is a 10lb bass? A buddy used to get access to his rich uncle's lake near XXXX, MO. 18'-22" LMB bass were pretty common and my best was just shy of 24". Healthy fish but not fat. Wonder what it weighed? Good times either way! .
Seth Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I've caught one that was right around that 8 mark. I've caught a couple others in that 6-6.5# range. There was a lake that some buddies had permission to fish years ago that was pretty well managed with lots of timber. One guy supposedly caught a 9 pounder twice within a few days. I'm not sure if she was on a bed or what. If any lake could produce a double digit fish, I'd think that would be the one. I've never heard of a true 10 pounder being caught from it though.
