m&m Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 This is the best response yet. A jerk is a jerk is a jerk. Very well said. From now on I will keep my cell phone handy to take a picture of those that are causing hazards. Moving forward, I think that it is time we post pictures/videos of the jerks we encounter on the water. Mike
Old plug Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 We used to have a guy here at LOZ put big signs on his desk telling you not to fish the dock. when that did not work he put a big sprinkler up on the roof. MCD paid him Armens paid his rich @ss a visit and threatened to haul his dock away. Very well said. From now on I will keep my cell phone handy to take a picture of those that are causing hazards. I think he means hazards like running at night with no lights, running to close to another vessel at speed, swamping another vessel/dock, etc. Just instances that are dangerous.
Old plug Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 the reason I am wondering is I is a very hard thing to prove and in Missouri we have no wake laws. If we did I would have been down on the dock long ago with a camera. I heard there was someone here on the Gravois tried to get someone fo reckless boasting and had pictures and what he got was a suit filed against himself. That is my only concern. Lot of these people got money to do that kind of foolishness. Some are even in thE legal system.
Bushbeater Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Perhaps we need a new forum called Jerks on the Water where we can all post pictures of the rude things some boaters do.

That is exactly what i was thinking about when I posted about using my cell phone camera. Public posting may cause behavior to change. Mike
Members Craig's Outdoor Sports Posted October 19, 2015 Members Posted October 19, 2015 As both a bass boat owner and a kayak owner I will just say that I think there are certain areas you shouldn't go with a kayak. Yes, you have the right to go out on the main lake, but that doesn't mean it's safe too. As a Kayak owner and angler, I know I'm just asking for trouble to go in the same waters that can be used by power boats. Let's face it, you just aren't very visable in a kayak even with one that has a flag or is a bright color. Especially when the sun is in the eyes of the power boater. And jet ski's try to run over bass boats all the time so it's nothing for them to try and get as close as they can to a yak and swamp it while laughing their drunks butts off. So, I stay off the areas where the big boats go. It just ain't worth the hassle. Besides, that is why I got into kayak fishing in the first place. The ability to be able to go where the big boats can't. Craig www.craigsoutdoorsports.com
Sam Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I'd never crowd anyone in a kayak - I figure that's like a motorcycle on the highway, give 'em extra room because they're more vulnerable than folks in larger vehicles/boats. I'm mostly a crappie fisherman, and the part of boating courtesy I have the most trouble with is being careful to not "cut someone off". That is, so many bass fishermen just go along and pound the banks, it's sometimes hard when I get to a spot to tell if that's what a boat is doing - and if they are, which way they're going. I try not to get in anyone's way. A few of 'em take that to ridiculous lengths, I think. A few times, not often, I've come from the main lake straight in to some crappie brushpile I know and there's a bass boat down the bank a ways - 100 yards or more. Well, I can't tell at first if they're sitting still or moving, or if they're moving which way they may be going along the bank, so I'll go to my brushpile. They're quite a long ways off, and may not even be coming my way. Sure enough a couple of times, 10 minutes later if they do get closer, I've been told "You cut us off.". I always say sorry, I didn't mean to - but if they were 100+ yards off when I pulled in there (and I wouldn't pull in to a bank otherwise), I really think that's a bunch of bull. That's the exception, though - most folks I encounter at the lake are real nice and I don't get in anyone's way if I can help it. Old plug and Champ188 2
Old plug Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 You said they were 100 yards away and 10 minutes later they were closer and claimed you cut them off. Well if they were 100 yards away and 10 minutes later close enough to claim you cut them off. They got a problem alright. They are fishing way to fast is my bet. I have had fisherman give me dirty looks for catching fish 100 to 200 ft in back of them. It seems to me like some people think they have priority to the lake because they are only there for the weekend or have put there bucks down for a tournament. 100 yards is a lot of bank I do not care what way they are going. Mitch f Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Never had a problem with Kayakers, but a guy on a 10 speed bike in the main traffic, slowing everyone else down makes me a little crazy. Deadstream, Champ188 and dtrs5kprs 3 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
