I'm looking at December 12, Saturday, for the first tournament.

It's not an official date - just considering.  I don't expect a big turnout because of the date... just want to try the concept out.  It'll be fun though... lake would be turned and fishing should be excellent!

Will you have any room specials?  Would you have a way for non-boaters to ride with others?

I would love to participate, but would need to find a boat.

Dave- I'd like to pit waders against boat guys at least once.

Yes if we do it we'll have specials.

Im sure we can work out boat partners.

Make waders be at your place for launch and weigh in on time, that eliminates early starts and late finishes

Seeing the post about kayak bass tournaments and the measuring devices they're using, I'm kicking around the idea of having a trout tournament along the same lines.

Here's my idea:
  • I provide the fish rulers.  They're returned at the end of the day.
  • Everybody has to have a way to take pics of their catch.  Camera phone, camera.  Must be digital.
  • Start 8 am and stop at 4 pm.
  • Each angler takes a pic of each trout caught on the ruler showing length.
  • Length will be scored up to the half-inch.  If a trout is 14-1/8th inch, it's scored 14.5 inches.
  • At "weigh-in", phones pics are downloaded to my computer as well as SD card images from cameras.  Then I will go through and tally the total length of each angler's catch.  *This may take a long time - winners may not be announced till the next day!
  • Ties will be broken by the longest fish, second longest and so on.  OR tie could be broken by the most fish caught.
Tournament fee would by $20 per person.  Pay 4-5 places.

I MAY allow wade fishing.  Waders would have to prove they are starting after 8 am and quit at 4 pm.  I'd have to figure out a way to do this but I think it could be done.  If I allow wade fishing, I probably will restrict fishing in the outlets.

What do you think?

I know there are those who don't like any kind of fishing contest- period.  I respect that, but there are those of us who like the competition, as well as the fellowship.

December 12 sounds good...fishing partner and I already have reservations.

I've not read about the kayak tournaments and/or rules...but you mention "Each angler takes a pic of each trout caught on the ruler showing length."  Would total length for the day be the cumulative of all fish or only (4) largest?  A "limit" of (4) per fisherman would reduce time to determine results however allowing "all fish" would give the opportunity to chase quantity vs quality.  If allowing quantity I can foresee an issue with ensuring every picture is of a different fish...i.e. when catching stockers it would be easy enough to recycle 1 or 2 fish to the livewell for a few additional pictures later in the day.  You might consider a "fool proof" measuring device and/or a detailed method for measuring and/or taking the photo.  I can foresee varying camera angles and/or shadows which do not clearly depict an accurate measurement.  Lastly...what if it rains on tournament day...you need GoPro to as a tournament sponsor!

Seems like a good format. All meet and pick up your stuff, go fish, meet back at same time. Hand ID # on the back of your hand with a sharpie given when you pick up the board. Plus a laminated postcard with same # to put in your photos. Hand# and postcard # in the picture must match our the fish does not count. Anyone could participate, Guess anglers could share a measuring board if they are all the same. Maybe a volunteer our three up by the outlets with measuring boards. That Hagen Hog Trough is 30" long.

Maybe count your top 10 to minimize the carnage and the tally duties? Not hard to to catch 50+ a day below the dam.

How long will it take to wade from phil's place to the trophy water?
