Guilt over not using a fly rod? Someone tell me why using a fly rod to catch fish is the alpha and the omega of angling prowess?

Because it takes more skill, and in the end you feel better (prouder?) about it. There is no mechanical device between you and your bait, and then the fish.  You are going to release the fish anyway, so why not get the most from your time astream and accomplish something truly meaningful for fuk sake

I don't expect you to understand, or to even attempt it.  It would interfere with your buzz and frankly...... You ain't the type. :) You would only become frustrated, constantly tangled, and your drink would get knocked over.    It isn't for everybody.

So rest easy ol'bean, you are precisely where you belong.

I can accomplish something truly meaningful with a 1/16 oz hair jig (which I tied myself) if I want, which, I really wouldn't consider a mechanical device. But the attitude of "I would never expect a mouth breather like you to understand" just ain't right!!! ????

I guess it's like me listening to Woody Guthrie, everyone looks at me like they just smelled a fart. I tell them they wouldn't understand.

Geeeeeee is there really a dark side and a light side?. I'm in a fog most the time anymore.

I'm just messing with everybody Old Plug ?

I will say that from my point of view, fly fishing is more like my old algebra teacher , who was more interested in the equation than the answer. There are definitely exceptions, but most of the time conventional equipment will out fish fly fishing. Let everyone enjoy what they want!!

a /16 oz hair jig is a hell of a crappie bait Mitch in the winter. Years ago I had a few I tied out of real polar bear fur. They would just about suspend. Took them a long time to fall. While they were doing that I would give them tiny slow lifts. Retrieve could litterly last 3-4 minutes on a fairly short cast.

Never been about right or wrong it is what gives me the most gratification. I can and do both but lean towards the "Dark Side" :) Again it is not what I catch but the process or the road taken to my goal. Like Mitch said enjoy what makes you happy!

Thereyou go billethead---- kind of like me catching something the way your not suppose to. I get outside the box a lot. The thing I got in my mind now is using sinkos in February when the bass. Start on stuff like Rouges around here. They are suppose to be rising very slowly. Jigs also work then and they are on the bottom. a sinko can be bottom fished. I done it just a few weeks ago picking it up and letting it drop back. Sooooooo something to play with.
