Chief Grey Bear Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 So the consensus is that "World Class" means high numbers of easily caught large fish? In my "Let grab you another beer" voice, of those states you mentioned Mitch, how many 20 inch fish have you caught in those states? Bunches, I caught 4 in one day on a river in WI, but it doesn't take any talent to fish there. If you ever go there you will see for yourself. Then you will come back and believe us. Gavin Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 World Class seams to happen when it is managed for, our in states where folks like to eat Walleye.

Where is the challenge? That's why people climb Mt. Everest. Not Taum Sauk. Hunters don't consider specially fed big game world class. It's about the hunt. The chase. I mean, I'm all for catching big fish. Please don't misunderstand that. But I would never consider myself a master trout fisherman because I catch a ton of 20 inch Rainbows in a Blue Ribbon section. Im like Joe, there is a lot more to "World Class" than just size. Flysmallie Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Hunters don't consider specially fed big game world class. It's about the hunt. The chase. Maybe not historically but the new generation of hunters is headed that direction. Spend some time on some of their forums and you will see it. BilletHead Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 If it all about the kill go to the grocery store it is way cheaper. If were as easy as going to grocery store I would quit. I so miss hunting with a self bow and stone points. Just sitting there it was, hard to explain like I had gone back thousands of years hunting. I still have fun but not like then. Again it is the process of how you do things than what you may or may not brag about or bring home. My opinion only but if you haven't walked the walk you will never know . Am I off track here ? Mitch f Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Chief, you asked me if fishing is better in other states, I answered your question yes. I love my home state, we have great fishing but it could be better, it's most certainly not as good for smallmouth as other states. Why are you so defensive? There's no argument here... But I know you love arguing for no reason. Mr. An-Cap 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

That's pretty much why I quit watching hunting shows years ago. Its all about huge racks on land they saw for the first time the evening before. They are lead to the stand in the morning. Screw that! MOPanfisher Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 World Class can mean different 5hings to different people. To me it wouldn't have to do with catching lots of 20 inch smallies, I would rather be with my friends camped on a gravel bar, campfire burning down to coals as we finish supper and BS our way into the night. Catching plenty of 12 to 15 inch fish but knowing that there is always the chance for that big un. Who wouldn't enjoy catching big smallies, but that's not the whole story. If the single common denominator among the so called "world class"smallmouth streams is low fishing pressure and no one expects to see low fishing pressure on Ozark streams then it seems less than likely that any management strategy is going to turn the Gasconade into a "world class" fishery. fishinwrench Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Yeah I'm plenty happy catching 12-15" smallmouth with the occasional 18+. And I'm happy catching 4-7lb. Largemouth instead of the 10+ units in Florida/Mexico. I know where some world class SM and LM water is at....but I darn sure don't wanna live there.
