Oh ya, what memories.  I think I fished every strip pit within 10 miles of Pittsburg from Mccune to state line and

Scammon to Arma.  First by bicycle and when I could drive used my 8ft. jon boat ( brand new for $45.00 with oars).  At that time all you might need is permission from farmer to cross his land.  Too bad acess is limited now.

Those fish were from a private pit so no limits for me! haha I was getting ready to have a fish fry so figured I'd add one last batch to the freezer. My 12 foot jon boat with oars or my kayak is what I've been using most of the time. A little easier to load than my scamp or hooking up the bass boat.

Pretty sure statewide limits still apply.  Otherwise what would be the purpose of a possession limit ?

Many are like farm ponds. You got to keep bass in some ponds because there's an abundance of small fish-too many. Keeping bass actually helps.

In Kansas possession limit only applies to Public Pits. If it's my private pit I can keep what I want. In Kansas if you're fishing private ponds or pits you don't even have to have a fishing license or your boat registered.

True, but If a pit/pond is producing bass like the ones shown, then I'd say the balance is about perfect.

Keeping a few is one thing.....That there was a HAUL.

I'm not sure. This particular strip pit is a half-mile long and isn't even the best strip pit on this plot of land. There's seven pits total and there's two more that have better fish in them than this. Trust me I know how to manage these fishing waters. They've been known as honey-hole fishing since the 80s. The majority of my fishing on these particular pits is catch and release and I have access to some others where I keep fish regularly to eat. Keeping that amount of bass out of a half-mile long pit is not an issue. I've had way larger stringers than that with a mix of bass and crappie and it hasn't impacted the fishing one bit.

I love fishing the pits down in SE KS but I don't get down there as often as I'd like. This past fall I bought a kayak so I might be able to do it a little easier since I don't have to haul the boat down there. I only fish the public ones. There's fish in all of them, but it was a lot of trial and error to figure out which ones were worth fishing and which ones weren't. They drained one of my favorite pits several years ago to do some work on a culvert. It's filled back up but of course all the fish are gone. Hopefully it will come back some day because it was a blast to fish. It was more of a marsh than a pit, but it had a bunch of quality fish with some big ones mixed in too.
