Tennis elbow is the term for tendonitis on the outside of your elbow. Golfers elbow isthe tendon on the inside. Not sure how arthritis affects it, but I know that can be a rough condition with not a lot of recovery.

There are lots of flexion and extension exercises you can do with no special equipment

I posted this because the elbow pain really got me down, and fishing was guaranteed to make it worse. You owe it to yourself to do some Google research on the exercises. That flex bar thing really helped me a ton. I use it on the couch, and I do flexion and extension while driving as someone posted above. I'm fully healed at the moment, or at least I have zero pain. But I still do the exercises.

I think driving cast rather than full arch cast is what causes it.

I think Old Plug is correct here. One day a couple of weeks ago, Smalliebigs and I fished a spot for whites and hybrids where we had to make extremely long casts with a spinning rod. My wrist and forearm were very sore that day and into the next. Luckily, it didn't turn into tennis elbow. I've had it before, for several months and it just kind of healed on its own.

Maybe this is a good time to make the switch to a baitcaster and put the Ned down for a while. ?

Odd for me.it was the opposite I quit the bait casters and switched completely to spinning.  Still have them and occasionally use them but very seldom.

I'm willing to give the Flex bar a try. Which color- strength did you choose?

I mentioned my soreness to my doctor last visit and was told to just put on a forearm band every time I was going to use my arm.  I'd have to wear it at all times because I never know what activities are going to cause problems.

Weekend warrior --- it could be arthritis. If your over 50 I bet it is. How do you do with shoulders and knees. I can only say be conservative. I know it's real hard to cut down on the way you fish. But you might need to.

Yes over 50 and shoulder and knees are fine but the inside of my elbows kill me after fishing and sometimes just day to day. Sometimes just holding a full cup of coffee will hurt. It's hell getting old. Pretty sure its arthritis

I'm 76 Warrior and got  a bunch of that arthritis stuff. If your health insurance will permit you to I would say go see somebody up a missou in Columbia. They got a a good bone department. Most of them are teaching professors and researchers. That's also specilize. My knee Doctor does nothing but knees and hip. Th guy I am going to about the shoulder does only shoulders elbows down the arm.

I think mine is blue. It's the heaviest one, but I'm 34, 250 lbs and have pretty strong forearms. When I put a full twist on it, it's a lot to hold. I think I could have gotten by with the next one down - the "medium"

It's important to be able to twist it through the full range of motion. I'd err on the side of a weaker one.

Thanks for the review. I'll most likely look intio that and buy one. I've had issues off and on, but mostly on since picking up the Ned rig. So many hooksets take their toll on me. I cast spinning and baitcasters with my left hand. So, I don't really get a break using one system over the other. My Dad is left handed and he taught me to cast. I taught myself to use the fly rod so I am right handed with a  fly rod.

I agree completely with you in that IF I can use an exercise routine and strengthen that area, that's the route I want to go. I'd rather avoid steroids if at all possible. They are very effective at reducing inflammation, but they do a lot of unintended things as well. I'll use a steroid IF I absolutely have to do so. I will use an nsaid and ice it during flare ups, but I would be SO happy to but this behind me for good.
