Ben, I think for it to be relative to the readings anglers are accustomed to seeing on their boats, about 18 inches would be perfect. This is the depth of most trolling motor-mounted sensors.

Wrench has a good point in that temps from various depths would be nice, but for starters I'd say go with data that is relevant to what we are accustomed to working with.

I can tell you one thing, for those of us that don't live close to the lake that data would be great to have as I am dependent on the fellow anglers on this site & Pete wenners information on water temperature more than how and where they are catching fish, question is how much, and more importantly, how many are willing to help out with this?? I for one would be interested, just spent 50.00 over @ bass tackle warehouse sale,

Will the phone app be free or cost? Makes no difference to me , think it's a great idea. Will donation insure any perks ? Like free ads or apps?

The web app will be free...if this thing moves forward like I plan, we would discuss building an actual 'app' that is downloaded to the phone as opposed to a simple, mobile (responsive) website that you can visit on your phone. This helps me trim the costs of getting started up. At the moment, a donation doesn't secure a perk, only helps to get the thing into existence ;) ......but you raise a good point. I should do some thinking on this...

Haha. Don't worry...we all do that @96 CHAMP... I actually hate asking for money and am not sitting easy right now with all of this going on and being in somewhat of a spotlight. I just think it would be very, very neat and useful, especially for guys who are not out everyday and who are not here in town with easy access to the lake...if anyone knows any of the big sponsor representatives for any of the tournaments, that could be a great source...

18" it is then @Champ188...appreciate it. Adding additional depths is loosely in the plan if I can get up and running.

The website is a start , but the phone app is where the money is. I would concentrate on that too. Then multiple lakes. Then nation wide. This is kinda like shark tank eh?

I have a phone app that I look at regularly that gives me a temp at Rock Lane Marina at Indian point. It also gives the water depth changes "live". I would switch my app out for one that had more Temps throughout the lake as long as it still gave the water depth "live". Would yours give the depth info also?

I agree completely denjac...I just have to start somewhere. Water levels are freely available and I can pull that info into any website or eventual app, I am just trying to get this moving and we can make improvements. Just need to get the groundwork of a dozen reporting devices going, then we can move onward and upward.

Water level is a very easy thing for me to add, I'm just trying to stay focused on the core of this...temperature readings from across the lake. I can surely add that, just after I get moving.

Ben, the idea is a good one. Is it perfect? Probably not. But most fisherman would want to know real time water temperatures so they can decide if they will fish the James, White, Kings, long creek, etc. The enhancement for me would be the water temperatures on the various parts of the lake coupled with the lake level on a running log so I can see where it was on the 1st day of the month and every day since then for the month. I can compare that with various daily weather feeds to determine the various stages the fish might be in when I can go fishing.  It is a very good idea.

The wolf river in Wisconsin has underwater cameras strategically placed so fisherman can tell when the white bass are running. People get used to it and head there when the video shows the movement.

Your temerature idea from various parts of the lake is one that is worthwhile.
