Guest Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I ordered 10 of the RC 1.5 square bills with a rattle (DRS) They look great & they have a low pitched lead rattle. Then, I decided to order a half dozen of the megabass jerkbaits that he sells. Has anybody else painted these suspenders? If so, what kind of clear coat? Im using Etex Lite which is lighter that Devcon 2 Ton epoxy. Just curious to hear anybody elses experience with these baits. The wording on the website is kinda confusing. It just seems like these baits are finicky & might require a lotta tinkering to get them to suspend properly. Clear coats, split rings, hook size, hook diameters, all seem to play a big role. I think they require #5 hooks.
m&m Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 TFR, I am awaiting an order from them. My son wants to paint them. He is excited about the opportunity to create the finish. I'm excited to test them. But might not be able to test them until spring Mike
Hughesy Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I've painted a bunch of these and they seem to be a really good lure. As with all of the jerk baits I use a 2 part spray on clear coat similar to an automotive clear to help eliminate any extra weight. You should be fine with the etex as I know of many other guys using something similar with good results. All jerk baits are finicky when it comes to making the suspend right. There are so many variables such as water temp, barometric pressure, floating mono line, sinking fluorocarbon, ect. Can't wait to see how they turn out! dtrs5kprs, Ranger Z22 and Champ188 3
Guest Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I'm using plasti dip spray on my wiggle warts & thought I might try it on the MGB 110. Because it's so thin. I'm usually brushing on epoxy (Etex lite) Im painting clown on the holographics & pro green or table rock shad on the clears? Any other colors I might want to try on the jerks? thanks
Guest Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Thanks Hughesy, maybe I can start spraying auto clear at some point. I just don't have proper ventilation. Need some negative air flow in the garage without blowing up my box fan. Lol

bluebasser86 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Buddy of mine has painted a bunch of them for me and I used them a bunch this year. He has one that's called "Sizzlefry", that has just been lights out all year. He also did a 110+1 with a pink back and white sides that has been great on a couple of occasions, including catching my second biggest smallmouth of the year. These silly things liked that pink one too. Hughesy and cheesemaster 2
Quillback Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I had Tim paint me several Predator 110 +1 just recently. They look great, but I haven't fished them yet. I did take them to a local lake and tossed them out there on 10 lb. InvisX to see how well the suspended. 3 of them needed a couple of suspend dots to suspend, one of them was a sinker (about a foot per 2 seconds). Things may change once the water gets colder, but those are the results I had. Hughesy and Ranger Z22 2
