BPS wouldn't be attacking their Competitor at Sportsman would they?   Jim must be stealing a lot of their business by out performing them.   Watch out.

"Some times you got to be an S.O.B. You want to make a dream reality

The competition? Send them south; if they're gonna drown put a hose in their mouth"

BOOM LIKE THAT by Mark Knopfler.

Song about Ray Kroc, McDonalds franchise founder. He firmly believed in putting one of his stores very close to a competitor, undercutting the price until he ruined them. He was good at it.  I'm thinking JM is too.

I've said my piece and then some about such matters. No need making additional enemies.

Awwww...kind of makes me want to sing that annoying John Lennon Christmas song. Peace and love come to OAF ;).

Maybe we should watch out for a new BPS "express" off I-44. You certainly might be on to something. Walmart does the same thing to suppliers, leveraging them on price to get their products in stores, then essentially threatening them with a loss of market presence if they don't continue to lower prices.

I was going to say that you can still buy Daiwa at Cabelas, but then remembered that JM is rumored to be buying Cabelas.  Took a quick look at the BPS Daiwa reel selection and it ain't much of a selection.

BP has had it out several times with both Daiwa and Shimano, along with the majority of independent quality tackle builders. 99% of the time it is their fault trying to "Bait and Switch" I have had it happen on multiple trips to the store.  Most always on either Daiwa or Shimano.  I'll believe Lew's is there when I see it on the shelf, cannot understand why they would cut their own throat that way.

If you go in Sportsmans Outfitters new store and start looking around, there is not one piece of CRAP  on the shelves.  Only quality fishing equipment that is current and made by independent name brand companies.  Kind of like when BP first started.

When you go into BP you have to absolutely demand a brand other than one that falls under the BP umbrella if you want it.  Usually they are there in very limited supply, if at all and if there is a sales person around he will tell you why you don't want it and want a BP product.

Good Luck to Lew's how ever they try and proceed.

The team at Lew's has first hand knowledge of how BPS Purchasing operates. I think that gives them a huge advantage. Especially since BPS is probably begging them to carry the reels. How is the "best" tackle store in the country not going to carry Lew's. Sometimes your forceful strategy works ad sometimes you have to kiss a little butt. I can't see how this can be anything but good for the guys at Lew's.

And screw Daiwa. That's just junk. I was a big fan until about 20 years ago when I pulled everyone of them off my rods and hurled them with force into Pomme de Terre lake. How do you design a reel that so easily cuts your line anyway?

Academy sports carries Lew's products ....

Agreed on seeing it before I believe but the employee at the reel department has worked at the St. Charles location for as long as I've been going there (10+ years). He isn't some college kid or some guy just needing a paycheck who could care less about giving quality information about product. He knows his stuff and while I won't take what he said as fact, I will take it as coming from a pretty credible source.

And yes money talks and BS walks. Johnny can see how Lew's is now one of the biggest players in the reel game and wants in on the action. Differences can be set aside where there is money to be made (or lost). But for now this is just water cooler talk and we shall see what transpires in 2016. Maybe a Lew's BPS introduction at their 2016 Spring Fishing Classic?
