jpb2187 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Looking for recommendations for a deep diving crank (at least 15ft) with a small body. Most of the baits seem to be 3"+. Anybody know of any decent ones that are below that size?
Hog Wally Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Smallie bigs gave me some and I don't know what they are but they go way down. Small long body walleye type crank
dtrs5kprs Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 The old Ashley Probe was the best for that. Honest 15', and a body about the size of a bandit or SK 3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Vintage-Rabble-Reuser-Deep-Ashley-Probe-Rare-Shad-Crankbait-Casting-Dives-20-/281880566189?hash=item41a16419ad:g:hxwAAOSw9r1WEl-b You might get a 3xd to 15' on 6-8# line (or braid) with some dots added.
dtrs5kprs Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 One of the Mann's 15 plus cranks would work too. Also hard to find.
Ham Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I've likely got some Mann's 15 plus and 10 plus that I would be happy to sell. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Mitch f Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 A Strike King 3XD won't go 15' but it's small and might go 12'. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
jpb2187 Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 Yeah, I like the 3xd, just wish I could get something a little deeper.
fishinwrench Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 The Mann's 15+ and the SK 5XD run about the same depth on an average cast. If you threw the 5XD on 10# I think you could hit 15 on a long cast. The Mann's cranks fight you back so hard it makes it difficult to feel bites I think. But that's what it takes for a crank to get deep FAST. The more resistance you feel the harder it is diving.

It would be tricky, but might get there with some well placed weight. Would probably kill a lot of the action though. There are some JDM cranks that might get there too, but those are going to be $$$ and hard to find without ordering from Japan. Mitch f 1
mjk86 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 what about a lipless or sinking/countdown crankbait? or even a casting spoon.
