I replaced my trolling motor rope with a vinyl-coated, stainless steel cable today. Even with the lift assist on the Minn Kota Fortrex, the rope eventually breaks. Sick of it.

Went to Home Depot and got the cable and crimp ends for less than $5. Used the existing T-handle. Beats the heck out of paying $30 for the fancy one from Tackle Warehouse ... no offense intended to anyone who went that route. They do look nice, but so does the one I made.

curious to how you crimped the cable loop together underneath the brace arm??  that is a great idea for a replacement, and will last a long time.  i always use a length of weedeater string.  very cheap and they actually last a very long time.

I went the $30 route. I have a Bass Cat instead of a Ranger so I can afford it. Lol.

I wonder at what level they will unlock the gates to the park.

You can really dress that up with either red or black shrink wrap.  You can also get that at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Do you put the shrink wrap over the top of the clear vinyl coating?

Bo, I slid the existing washer onto the cable and then used the single crimp piece on that end. On my MK Fortrex, there was no problem with it fitting up inside the mount.
