I have an 85 evinrude 40hp outboard that doesn't have water coming out the "pee" hole. I have changed the impeller and that didnt fix the problem. Any advice of where to look next would be much appreciated.

Check the line on the top side with a small wire for dirt dauber nest or spider web. That was my problem.

Wrench will know.

Good luck.

I ran a piece of wire up the hole where water comes out and didn't feel anything that would prevent water from coming out. But I don't know how far is far enough to push the wire. Thank you for the help

You may have missed the water tube when reassembling, or it could be a bad grommet (top OR bottom of the water tube).  Or you may have dropped the impeller key.

There is a service bulletin on 1982-86 two and three cylinder Johnson/Evinrudes for re-routing the indicator hose to run up and over the cylinder head to prevent an air cavity at the thermostat and pressure valve.

If you need help with it I have time.  573-569-5406

I will check the water tube as I may have missed it. But I think there is another problem somewhere because the old empellor didn't look to have any real problem. I did it by myself and I'm sure there is trick but I had a little bit of trouble holding the lower unit and getting everything lined up. I also didn't look at the top grommet but the bottom ones were still pliable and didn't show signs of wear or look dry rotted. I know the impeller was keyed back to the shaft properly though.

Thank you for the help

This needs to be said... For as much praise as Bill Babler gets on the Table Rock forum for giving such great, detailed reports & information (which he deserves), Wrench deserves the same!!! We are lucky to have Wrench on this forum. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to boats and motors (fishing too)... And he's always willing to share ideas, possibilities, or help at the drop of a dime. Thank you Wrench!

Quick story. Was out putting in brush last weekend and I got to PB2 and smelled gas and saw a sheen on water so took boat home took off cowling and put the muffs in her and found leak, took a pict and messaged to fishinwrench and he messaged me back and told me what I should do and was back on water next day. I have never met Fishinwrench but to talk on forum, thanks Fishinwrench!

That's what I'm talking about! One of these days we'll need to get a group of us LOZ guys together for some fishing or at least beers. I had a blast getting to meet Wrench and Old Plug back in November!
