Hey guys, I am wanting to experiment with some braid this year. Looking for some pointers such as line size and brands that work well for some applications on our area lakes. Any do or do nots would be greatly appreciated to reduce my learning curve. Thanks in advance!

I'm also a 832 fan. I've never had one ounce of trouble. I highly recommend it. I used to use Fireline and it works great too.

I've tried the Power Pro a couple of times with disaterous results!

One thing I'd like to mention is the damage braid can do to the eyes, especially the tip. I highly recommend using only ceramic eyes. The braid will cut grooves into the others that will damage the braid too.

There is a line by Lucky Craft called "Iron Athlete" that I am very pleased with for topwater use.  It is yellow (only color I have found it in) and the line floats. It is great for Rio Rico or Yellow Magic poppers in particular.

2 years ago in the spring we got on a shallow fluke bite with M spinning Rod, but needed to stay back and cast a long way.  I was using Nanofil but kept breaking it on hook set (I set hard) until I backed my drag WAY off.

I agree that the braids are a PIA in a lot of ways.  I got a bulk spool of 6# & 8# Maxima at a good price and mostly use that now, especially if the wind is blowing.

For those of you who haven't used braid on a spinning reel. It is essential to put a mono backing tied directly to the reel. If you tie braid directly to the spool the spool will spin under that braid and not reel line in.

Good point.  This also eliminates the braid digging into itself on the spool.  Some reels say they are braid ready, but I put backing anyway.

Tackle Warehouse had that Lucky Craft line on clearance recently.

Suffix braid 6lb test. It's way stronger than 6lb.

Are you taking the 6lb dia.? That is what I use on my baitcasters. It's 20lb test.

I use the 4lb dia. on my spinning rod which is 10lb test. I know it is overkill for those little Neosho's.

But I do think they make a 2lb dia. that is 6lb test dony they? Fireline did.
