As of few days back, scant males close to the banks here on the BN, still not turning dark in color.

We cleaned 22 crappie that were caught within pretty close proximity to Party Cove this past Saturday. It was probably 50/50 on males to females. All fish were caught around brush in 12-20' of water 2-10' down. Didn't catch any on the banks, but did see one caught off the Pa He Tsi loading dock when we put in.

The females at LOZ don't start coming out until around Memorial Day.

That is very true. The best fishing for the really big females is lake May in shallow brush. You might catch them at anytime during the day then.

I just realized that we were talking about crappie.  Ooops...

You have at all those really big females old plug, I'll stick with the petite and average size ones.

I caught some fat females yesterday.  Towards the end of the day I finally realized the pattern on them, they were in 4-7' just off the bank, but only on the sunny side of the first dock next to a stretch without docks.....if that makes sense.    It didn't matter if there was wood or anything, just had to be the first dock at the end of a stretch of bare bank. There would be at least two bigguns hanging just off the bank within casting distance of that first dock but not a single one came from the shady side.

Those fish are goofy. In the winter when it's cold, you would think they would prefer the sunlight but instead you have to shoot 20' up under a shaded dock to catch them. Glad you got them figured out.

Of the 27 I cleaned on Sunday only 2 or 3 had pretty bloody eggs. The rest of the females just had bright yellow eggs with no blood going through em. Fishing a crappie tournament on 4/23 and I think we are going to hit it on the head.

Wrench I may message you to try and get an idea where the bigger females are hanging out as the date gets closer ;)
