Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 15, 2016 Root Admin Posted April 15, 2016 Launched at 4 pm yesterday. Hit some spots, brush piles and caught small crappie. Bear Den, Peach Orchard. Used 1/16th oz heads with Bobby Garland Crappie Baits - Baby Shad Opening Night (LAM), 2 pound line. Headed up James and fished some channel banks with lay downs. Caught a lot of tiny bass, small crappie. Scattered crappie. No pattern. Did catch 4 keeps - all were 5-8 feet off bank suspended may be 3-6 feet deep. Caught some night blue gill, red ears too. Water temp from 62 to 64 degrees. Lots of boats out... Donna G and Quillback 2
marcus Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 those red ears are no joke those litte suckers can fight

Had a friend that went up flat creek side and said he caught some crappie and blue gill also, them blue gill if big enough are some good eating... I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
m&m Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Phil, thanks for the report. Glad to see the WT into the 60s. Mike
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 15, 2016 Author Root Admin Posted April 15, 2016 Was tempted to keep some of the gills... did keep a gog. Lots of aggressive, small bass...
Champ188 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Crappie fished 7 hours up the Kings on Thursday with similar results. Tons of small ones but only one keeper. Also caught some nice gogs. Donna G 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 I have caught an unusual amount of short ones around Bridgeport this year. Not a bad thing though, means it will be better next year
Nitro 750 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Thanks Phil for the report, it has been a tough year so far for crappie, well at least for me. Plan on trying it in the morning.
mmirg Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Makes me feel a little better that at least we weren't the only ones that didn't get a limit or even close. I fished with my brother and son on Tuesday of this week around Bridgeport. We managed 5 keepers and what looks like a cross between a small mouth, a goggle eye, and a green sunfish I've never seen one quite like it. Fished with my dad today and only got 4 keepers. The fish were everywhere from 6 to 15 fow suspended caught them on 1/16 and 1/8 oz white/chart. Same story as everyone else I guess. And yes, loads of boats out today. magicwormman 1
