SpoonDog Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 4 hours ago, fishinwrench said: Mark, "suffering from depression" is a clinical cliché that never existed until the country was overrun by psychologists who needed more patients. You are either depressed about something that has happened but you are too overwhelmed to change for, or you are depressed for no apparent reason. Pills don't fix it, and psychologist's can't fix it. You are either mentally strong enough to overcome it, or you aren't. What's so mean and ignorant about stating the hard cold facts about it. Tip toeing around facts does not help anyone understand or overcome anything. It helps for me to think about it like diabetes in the brain- some folks can manage it with diet, excercise, or other life changes. For other folks it's a hard-wired imbalance in brain, and those folks can no more train their brain to produce more of a hormone than someone with Type I diabetes can train their liver to produce more insulin. Suggesting in all instances someone can overcome it through sheer force of will is simply, profoundly, ignorant. Whatever you believe is irrelevant- it's simply not true. Saying someone with depression, bipolar disorder or other mental disorder just needs to get over it is as nonsensical as telling an amputee to suck it up and will their arm into growing back. What a Syrian kid's woken up to every day for the past five years is normal, but it isn't on the level. Sexual harrassment is "normal" in the sense it's happening all the time, that doesn't mean it's a-ok for me to grope your wife. "Normal" is just what an individual is used to seeing every day, it isn't monolithic and it doesn't carry any moral baggage. On the flip side- if you can't accomodate the group of people least likely to commit a crime because the fact they exist offends your sensibilities, it isn't saying anything about that group of people. It's saying something about you. grizzly and hoglaw 2
Deadstream Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Doctors today dispense anti- depressants and anxiety med like a pez candy toy. I get offered it every time I see my Dr. It has become a joke. Like most medical marijuana card holders. The truly needy get lost in the phony baloney. I have cut a sibling down, he was just a wasted doper that couldn't adjust to the real world. When I suffer anxiety I change my surroundings. Jackasses that have an excuse for everything causes anxiety in my case. Daryk Campbell Sr, fishinwrench and Ketchup 3

fishinwrench Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 It blows my mind that all these people claiming to be mentally ill have no problem at all operating their mobile devices and mastering every X-box game in existence, and they seem to have no problem recognizing which expensive in-style shoes to buy. But for some odd reason they can't be trusted to make a grilled cheese sandwich without burning the house down. And how dare you expect them to operate a lawn mower or even a rake. Crap like that infuriates me. Kick them in the butt and stop buying into their bullshit. Deadstream, Carl1969, tho1mas and 1 other 4

Ketchup Posted May 9, 2016 Author Posted May 9, 2016 Read that a yak tourney guy got busted. I would quit fishing if I had to cheat to be successful. Also read where an Elite guy failed a polygraph after a recent tourney. The B.A.S.S and others seem to be taking this cheating stuff serious. Just doesn't make sense to me to want to win so bad that you revert to cheat another out of his time, money, happiness. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club.
