snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 What Ham said plus I do the same thing in my yard. I walk around and lay out all the line on the spool in grass then wind it back in. The grass gets the twist out just like water. Of course you look like an idiot walking around the back yard with a fishin pole. mixermarkb and akaslyguy 2
dblades Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I use a Shimano 100 with Boca Bearing and a light crankbait rod that has lots of tip and a good backbone for shakeyhead's and ned's quite a bit. A light head and half a Zinker is over 1/4 ounce like rps said.
*T* Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 On Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:49 PM, Bill Babler said: Kind of what RPS said. Switch to 5 pound Maxi on your spinning reel. Also never under any circumstance close the bail with the reel handle. The handle is for reeling in fish, not shutting the bail, While the Ned is in flight just prior to it hitting the water simply close the bail with your hand and your line twist and loops will no longer be a question. Good Luck Well, every turn of the handle on a normal retrieve puts twist in the line. And if the handle is for reeling in fish, not for shutting the bail, why does every manufacturer make their reels to operate in the manner that if you turn the handle, the bail closes. Reels could be made so they won't close the bail. Closing the bail by hand does not really make much of difference. Think that is kind of a myth. If folks get into that habit it's not a bad thing. It may or may not make any difference. Kinda depends on the position of the bail when you flip it over by hand, and if the position its in still puts a twist in it. If I'm totally wrong, someone should edumacate me on this with some specifics 'cause I don't see it. GNSfishing 1 "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Ham Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Getting line twist out is important, BUT I still think loose line is as BIG or BIGGER problem than line twist. dtrs5kprs and mixermarkb 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I agree Ham. I palm the reel on every cast to control how far it goes, close bail by hand and give a little pull up the line. mixermarkb, dtrs5kprs, Ham and 1 other 4
*T* Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Feather the spool Edge with my finger to control distance if cast is going too long. but whatever works for you is good too. dtrs5kprs, Champ188, mixermarkb and 1 other 4 "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Unimog Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I may try going down to 8# on my next respool. I have 8 on my baitcast drop shot so why not I guess.

Unimog Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 This is on casting tackle so that's not been a problem for me. I thought I got but fine on 10, I'm interested to see what 8 and 6 is like!
