Had a neat encounter with this guy Friday while mushroom hunting.  Got him to hiss, spread out his head and rear up.  But I guess we weren't intimidating enough to get him to play dead.  Only the second one I've seen in my life.  First one was around 1984..... I think.......

Hognosed snakes used to be pretty common around my house, but haven't seen one in a few years.  have taken them to school when I was a kid, played with them etc.  Worst thing that happens usually with them or a black snake is they will poop on you, and it is stinky.

Pretty cool snake. I have never seen one in the wild. Too bad it wouldn't play dead for you.

Wow, never knew that cobra's weren't the only snakes that can do that whole head spread thing. That's pretty cool.
